Beer Tasting: Tektonik Fat Lady and O'Hara's Hop Adventure
Hello, beer lovers! π»
How are you? Doing something or enjoying a well-deserved rest?
Well, I'm pretty tired. It was a sunny day, although the weather forecasters were predicting rain, and I've been working like cattle all day, so my whole body is aching, and what will happen tomorrow...
I was even thinking of skipping today's #beersaturday, but that's not going to happen, after all, I deserve a beer or two for my hard work π
So I have two bottles in front of me, one Slovenian and one Irish, they've been chilling all day, it would be a sin if I didn't empty them.
Tektonik Fat Lady Hazy Pale Ale
Brewed by Tektonik Craft Brewery, Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV, IBU 20.
It's Hazy Pale Ale style, which means juicy, fruity Pale Ale beer with New World/American hops.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Wrapped in a silky veil of oily viscosity, the Fat Lady presents herself in her formidable role as a representative of the light eagle. Despite her relatively moderate alcohol level, she does not hide the softness of her body, in fact she gives it away immodestly, thanks to a generous dose of oat and wheat flakes. The already well-known hop varieties Citra and Ekuanot round off the experience with their fruity notes to create a pleasant whole. The pleasant aromas of citrus and tropical fruits are immodestly indulgent to the taste buds when sipped. It's not over while the plump lady is still singing.

A fat lady with a generous dose of oat and wheat flakes. Hmm... I'm going to gain weight again...
The beer is cloudy golden in color, and has an average and persistent head. The smell of fresh hops. A sip goes down the throat smoothly, the palate develops a calm bitterness, citrus and pineapple aromas, and a discreet sweetness in the background, flakes perhaps or malt?
A slight bitterness lingers in the aftertaste for some time.
Tasty and very drinkable beer. Just bitter enough, juicy, and just a hint of fruity. Nothing extreme, a little of everything, but balanced. Available in Hofer and Mercator local stores (β¬2.69) so, by the way, a bottle will end up in my fridge for sure.
Memes today? Not really, but an answer in case anyone wonders why I'm tired, as I mentioned at the beginning.
A couple of days ago I got a request that I couldn't refuse, namely, my mother asked me if I could paint her balcony fence. Yes, it was the last time, I remember the last time I painted it, but it was about forty years ago ...
And who is this model?
First I had to remove all the rust and old paint. Even though I was sanding the iron fence with an electric drill on which I had fitted a wire sanding attachment, it was quite tiring.
I managed to sand a good half of the fence.
Although I naively thought it would all be a joke and over in a couple of days, it now seems to me that it will take another week or more. When I have finished, I will describe it in detail.
Let's move forward!
Interesting, I'm not so tired now. Probably the previous beer had something to do with that :)
O'Hara's Hop Adventure Single Hop IPA
Brewed by O'Hara's Brewery (Carlow Brewing Company), Bagenalstown, County Carlow, Ireland.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV, IBU 30.
It's IPA, India Pale Ale style beer, very hoppy and bitter, sometimes strong in alcohol, usually brewed with modern New World/American hops.
What do the Master Brewers say?
The fourth edition of the O'Hara's Hop Adventure Series is a single hop IPA showcasing Styrian Wolf - an exciting new hop varietal from Slovenia. Flavours of blueberry, raspberry and tropical fruits.
π»
And that's interesting. Irish IPA hopped with Slovenian hops. I have looked into what these hops are all about:
Styrian Wolf is the offspring of a cross between European and American heritage, bred at the Slovenian Institute of Hops and Brewing in Ε½alec. It is characterised by a very intense fragrant aroma which is transferred from the hop cones into the beer. (source).

The beer is slightly cloudy and golden in color and the head is average. It smells of hops. It goes down the throat smoothly, and on the palate, I first taste a solid bitterness from the hops, herbs, and pine, and a slight sweetness from the elderflower and malt.
In the aftertaste, everything slowly disappears except for a slight hop bitterness for a while.
A fresh and drinkable beer, with more herbal aromas than the tropical fruit aromas expected from IPAs.
Yes, those hops, Styrian Wolf, are used more in the brewing of lagers I think.
Both beers were very good, but this is not available in local shops, only via mail order, so it won't be in my fridge.
Otherwise, I liked the first one a bit better, but what do I know, maybe because I was tired and thirsty?
And what am I listening to as I write this and taste the beer? Something from yesterday #newtunes post. Two DJs and a drummer in action.
