Beer Tasting: Morana Midnight Stout and Hirt Rubin Bock
Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
Where do we stand today? Weekend, is it time for fun or work? If you ask me, I prefer fun.
Especially when it comes to beer, the world's favorite drink.
351 #BeerSaturday is here and I have to make my input. But it won't go so easily. My closest family members remind me that I have to earn it. 😜
Well, the late afternoon ended happily, I've earned a beer (or two) and there are two bottles in my fridge, one Slovenian and one Austrian, which I'll be happy to empty.
Morana Midnight Stout
Brewed by Pivovarna Vizir, Črnomelj, Slovenia, for the Eurospin retail chain.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 6.0 ABV, IBU N/A.
That's a Stout-style beer, dark, and bitter, with strong roasted flavors similar to coffee or chocolate.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Discover the secret of Midnight Stout, a creation born from the fusion of the embrace of the winter moonlight and the magic of the goddess of darkness - Morana. Let every sip invite you to enjoy the complexity of dark malts, a hint of chocolate and the subtle touch of the goddess.
🍻
Yes, Eurospin sells a trilogy of Old Slavic gods - Svarun Solar IPA, I've already tried that, Morana Midnight Stout is on the table right now, and Triglav Triumph Ale, which is still waiting :)
The beer is black, there is a lot of head but it disappears quickly. It has no smell. A sip goes down the throat smoothly and the palate develops a bitterness of burnt malt, bitter chocolate, perhaps a modest hint of caramel.
I don't taste the hops, it's only in the aftertaste, when the bitterness remains, that there is a hint of hop bitterness that lingers for a while.
For a stout, it is surprisingly refreshing. I drink them more rarely, but this one is very fine. I was expecting more complexity in the flavors, but the roasted malt and chocolate is quite enough. It's available in Eurospin local shops, and the price is reasonable (€1.69) so a sample will end up in my fridge.
As I mentioned, I have to earn my beer :)
Today, my wife and I started our green plan (read: we started tilling the field). The soil was (finally) dry enough for me to level part of the field with the motor cultivator and my wife planted onions and peas. That's for the start of the season.
Still quite tiring, so I deserved my beer without a doubt, actually two 😜
And late afternoon lunch, fresh dandelions we picked in the field, with beans, egg, boiled potatoes, roasted bacon, and pumpkin oil. 😋
Let's move forward!
Hirter Rubin Bock
Brewed by Brauerei Hirt, Micheldorf, Austria.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 7.0% ABV, IBU 32.
Bock or Dunklel-Bock style, usually dark, strong in alcohol and malty german lager with complex flavors, mostly of dried fruits.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Real red. Real beer needs time. That's why we store our Hirter Rubin Bock for a particularly long time: at least six months. The unique red hue results from the composition of several types of malt. Brewed with the purest mountain spring water from the Hirter springs and a passion for the real thing.
🍻
The beer is ruby brown in color, with a little head. It has no smell. It goes down the throat smoothly and develops a pleasant malty sweetness with flavors of honey, caramel, and prunes.
In the aftertaste, all this disappears and a hop bitterness emerges which lasts for some time.
A very tasty and juicy beer! The combination of malt sweetness, honey, caramel, and dried fruits is well balanced, without anything being too dominant. Almost like a Belgian monk's beer.
It's not available locally, but I bought it in Rijeka at the Konzum shop. As it's not that far (about 30 km) I will buy a piece for my fridge next time I'll be there.
And what am I listening to as I write this and taste beers? Nothing from my yesterday #newtunes post. I got caught in the web of kraut rock / neo-psychedelia by an unknown band from Düsseldorf, Germany.

Hello dear friend @seckorama good afternoon
Yes, it's good that the weekend has arrived and I said goodbye tasting some exquisite beers
You have done a great job of leveling the field for your crops, without a doubt you have earned the delicious lunch and beers
May you enjoy the weekend
Thanks, my friend @jlufer. Yes, I think I deserve a few beers after a working day. 😎 I'm checking the posts here, drinking a beer, and there's a big storm outside. I hope it will stop soon.
In this area of the world it is also raining often, at this moment the weather is ready, I think that when night falls we will have heavy rain.
I hope the bad weather there passes soon, dear friend.
Enjoy the weekend. I hope you enjoy it
Yes of course.
The salad looks delicious! Are you done with your fence project? I would say you deserve several beers for doing that!
Thanks. I haven't finished with the fence yet. I've sanded and cleaned it, that was the hardest part, and now I have to repaint it. It will take time. There was a storm last night and it even snowed. It turned white here in the valley, too.
Too bad, because the plums and cherries are already in bloom and the cold will destroy them. :(
Morana is linked with winter in our Culture. I'd hardly named a Stout after her. Rather a very pale and extremely bitter beer that would make goosebumps all over your body :)
Yes, that's a bit strange, because Morana is the goddess of darkness, cold, and death, as far as I've read about Slavic deities. They must have had a goddess. What do I know, maybe they'll give some IPA the name Živa, who is the goddess of life and spring 😎
Both beers sound good to enjoy, kicking back after a day preparing the land for the next crop.
Well presented share!

Thank you. You're right, after hard work each beer fits. !BEER

That's true. We have been growing almost all our vegetables for about six years. But it takes a lot of time and you end up with a small crop if you go organic.

.The second Beer looks better to me. The Morana is looking like it will be bitter
I’m speaking for the experiences I’ve had from black beers
Yes, Morana is very bitter, and Hirt is sweet a little bit.
It seems like a fair deal 😄😅, the beers look very good, I even wanted to have one, it's very hot here 😄, nice post, Regards
Yes, both dark beers, are not bad.
I would love to try the Morana, it seems like a very interesting beer
It's black and very bitter :) in Europe, the Eurospin food chain is a distributor.
Dear friend @seckorama, you deserve the lunch with cool beer. But which one did your wife enjoy? Or did you drink alone?
