Beer Tasting: Kuchlbauer Alte Liebe And Kraftbierwerkstatt Black Forest
Hello everyone! 🍻
It's the weekend and the weather is nice, not too hot. Right time (and you must find the place, too) for 323rd #beerstaurday!
And here we go!
Two cans, both solidly chilled, both German and if I'm not mistaken, both dark, are in front of me. Both are from Kale Beer-Box. I'll open them.
First the one with less alcohol.
Kuchlbauer Alte Liebe - Dunkle Weisse
Brewed by Brauerei zum Kuchlbauer, Abensberg, Bavaria, Germany.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.2 % ABV, IBU N/A.
It's a Dunkelweizen style beer which means wheat beer with intense banana and/or clove character.
What do the master brewers say??
The careful composition of wheat malt and gently roasted special malts from the region gives our ALTEN LIEBE a black-red mahogany color and a great flavor bouquet. The aroma is dominated by cocoa and caramel flavors. The aroma pleasantly determines the taste experience and combines with banana and mango aromas as well as a hint of nutmeg and vanilla to a full-bodied, quaffable wheat beer pleasure with a strong foam structure.
Coconut, banana, mango, caramel, vanilla... what does this beer NOT contain?
The beer is dark brown in colour, the head is solid and creamy. It smells of roasted barley. It goes down the throat smoothly, with no stuckness anywhere. There is a malty sweetness on the palate, but not too much. Later on, there is a discreet taste of banana and caramel, I taste no coconut, no mango. Bread and cereal before.
In the aftertaste, there is a discreet bitterness of roasted barley and hops. And then it slowly disappears.
Quite an OK beer. Drinkable and refreshing, all the flavours are balanced, and nothing stands out too much.
They say something about coconut and mango but I didn't really taste it. Even without that, I think it's good.
Meme for today
Kraftbierwerkstatt Black Forest
Brewed by Kraftbierwerkstatt Böblingen, Böblingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Can, 0.5l, alcohol 5.7% ABV, IBU 16.
It's a Dark lager style, with roasted and rich malts, with less bitterness than classic dark beers.
Master brewers say nothing about this beer, so I can only compare it with the previous one. This one is also from Kaleo Beer-Box.
The beer is dark, almost black in colour, the head is considerable, creamy, and disappears quickly. The first sip goes down the throat smoothly, I taste the sweetness of the malt, a little bitterness, and then the taste of honey and bread.
In the aftertaste, all this slowly fades away, except for a slight bitterness that lasts for a while.
Drinking and refreshing. It does not have a distinct taste, but pleasant. I don't know that many dark beers (I don't drink them very often, except for #beertasting) but this one is solid and smooth. Right for the fridge but unfortunately not available here.
And what am I listening to as I write this and taste the beers? Something from my most recent #newtunes post. An extraordinary talent, but sadly she passed into eternity too soon.

A beer with a taste of banana and coconut?
Bavarian beer culture is at an all-time low.
A beer from Böblingen that looks like a Guinness, but isn't one, is not going to help much.
No, I think all of Germany is going to get ruined!
All wheat beers, whether light or dark, taste of bananas, some more, some less. Try some, you'll see. !BEER

.Both of those sound good to me. I always liked Bavarian Dunkel beers. Some interesting flavor notes by the experts - banana, coconut? I guess their palats are very refined and sensitive to pick up on such things? That's why they are the experts I suppose lol. My nose and taste buds aren't powerful enough to notice such subtlety.
It can be said that most wheat beers possess some degree of banana flavor.
I don't drink a lot of wheat beers, so I didn't know that. Interesting.
Try it, you'll see it's true. Because that's why I don't like them. If they have too much of that banana taste. !BEER

I think I might be in the mood for a couple dark beers right about now. The first one is what I would start with when I finally make my way to Germany for a beer tour.
