I have had a similar real-life experience. I had a van that would lock itself sometimes when I shut the driver's door. I parked beside the road once and got out to take a picture of some beautiful mountains, left the car running with the key in the ignition,and it locked itself. There was a trailer house nearby, and the lady who lived there knew who to call in the nearest little town, so somebody came before long and got my door open again.
