Alien vs. Predator (Arcade) Review – Let the hunting begin
Surely, when many of you hear the phrase Alien VS Predator, the first things that come to your mind are the movies made in the early 2000’s. What many of you don’t know is that before this face off become popular in cinema, this epic versus was already making its way in the gaming world.
Everything started in 1994 when Capcom decided to turn this idea into a reality that many fans wanted to see. It all was realized with an arcade game with a similar style to Final Fight, but also adding elements from the worlds of these two famous aliens, among which are the lore, the characters’ skills and the stage designs.
This concept may not seem that original today, but we have to take into consideration that in the 90’s the beat them up videogame genre was very popular. Especially because of the details and options these types of games offered to the players. Besides, the competition in amusements arcades was very strong during that time and not only among games of the same style, but also with the big successful titles of those years, and it was around this time that the popularity of Street Fighter was staring, and standing out was the primary goal in the medium.
Getting back on track, the plot of this game is very simple. Earth has been invaded by the Aliens, and the only way to stop this threat is to face it. Among the playable characters we have two warriors: a soldier with a mechanical arm, capable of destroying everything in his way; and a cyborg girl, weaker but with enough speed and weapons to take out any enemy in a matter of seconds.
Evidently, the other two playable characters are a pair of Predators, who decide to ally themselves with the human race when they come to the realization that their mortal enemies are winning this time. The Warrior Predator is the stronger of the two, his attacks cause a lot of damage, but his movements are quite slow. This is contrasted by the Hunter Predator, who is fast but not as strong, and in my opinion, these skills make him a more balanced character.
Now, something curious about this game is that it was first equipped to be played by three players at a time and not four. That was in fact how the set of controllers were designed for it, but the majority of arcades only used two sets in order to save space in these locations.
In conclusion, even though it’s already been 30 years since its first appearance, this action game is still one of the best ever made based on these famous characters mythos. If you had the opportunity to play it in an amusement arcade, consider yourself lucky, especially because it was a game filled with fun in the most classical way that a game should be.

I remember this videogame, it was too much fun and complicated, in fact, all the ones that came out in that console were too amazing, they mixed the fighting style with the exploration of places.

I didn't know this game! Lately I've been watching the new versions of Alien on Steam. This one looks extremely attractive especially because of the classic beat em up style!
