Are there Bad Books? What Genre do you Love/Hate To Read?

"Good writing is good writing. In many ways, it’s the audience and their expectations that define a genre. A reader of literary fiction expects the writing to illuminate the human condition, some aspect of our world and our role in it. A reader of genre fiction likes that, too, as long as it doesn’t get in the way of the story."
-Rosemary Clement Moore

I'm glad to write again here today, I am because last time, I discovered alot of people here are real book lovers. There were some nice interactions in my post last Thursday. We've got a lot of Book worms here with different reading habits that helped shaped their lives.

Diving into our reading Culture, let's discuss the type of books we read and the genre we usually avoid.

While I love romantic novels and stories, I also do love fantasy and to some extent Sci-Fi, I hate the horror genre so much, I don't like to read violent books, it affects me so much. I know someone who loves the horror genre and as recommended showed me some nice ones with an interesting storyline, however, it isn't just my thing.

Coming From Someone Who Watched all The Episodes of Walking Dead...

Well, in my defense, it's a series that attracted me from the very episode, and with books, it is all different. I don't often watch horror movies but I can see a few comfortably however, there is something about horror books that tears me apart. My friend would say horror books are nice because it gives that adrenaline rush and that scary feel. To me, it messes with my head as I keep recreating different scenes in my head.

We mostly agreed on my post that Movies adaptation of books are not always that interesting, If so, it may be the reason why its easier for me to watch a horror movie than to read a horror book.

A Classic Example is "Bird Box"

There was a lot of tension reading this book, it is so scary and tense! It felt like if you don't kill the monsters, and you see them, you kill yourself. I had so many emotions reading this novel.

However, It was a comfortable watch on Netflix when it came out, I understood the concept of the 'Bird box' more.

There is something about Romantic Books...

I just can't pass a romantic novel without asking questions about it. Romantic books show the dynamics of love in different ways. It also shows the willingness of people to express how they feel.

I can't count the number of friends I've made because of one romance novel or the other. It is just so simple, romantic books are on another level to me. romance novels offer more than sex, it gives a more overwhelming feel.

I once heard someone say romance novels are read only by women. That's not true, In fact

According to the nonprofit Romance Writers of America, 18 percent of romance fiction readers are men. Fully one-third of erotic audiobooks are downloaded by guys

Me, I would forever rate this as my top genre.

It is interesting to note that not many people on Goodreads love the romance genre.

In a recently conducted Poll on Goodreads

A large number of people voted Romance as their least favorite genre.

I didn’t know Birdbox had a book. Then again, how would I? I don’t read that much these days.

I’m not much if a reader, but if I had to choose what my least favorite genre was, I’d say horror. I’ll go three steps down and say that after horror, I’d say cookbooks next, then romance. And if you’re doing a poll for favorites, put me on the sci-fi list😃

To contribute to the poll I'll say HORROR, but for me, it's more like the way the author treats the plot, characters, etc. For example, I love Lovecraft
