Mi entrada al concurso TopFiveFamily Observa Piensa Escribe. Un día bonito // My entry to the TopFiveFamily Watch Think Write contest. A beautiful day
Observar esta foto me remonta a la primera vez que visité junto a mi familia el Santuario de la Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre de Santiago. Sacando cuentas fue la primera y la única vez que he visitado el lugar. La foto me hizo aflorar los sentimientos de nerviosos pues cuando llegamos lo primero que pude divisar fue una iglesia muy muy grande y del mismo tono amarillo de la foto de la iniciativa.
Quiero empezar diciendo que es uno de los lugares más visitados de mi país, pues abarca muy bonitas tradiciones, la instalación se llena de turistas y nativos de la isla.
En la carretera del Cobre compramos varios ramos de girasoles para ponerle a la Virgen.
Íbamos contra reloj porque se nos iba a pasar el horario de la misa y afortunadamente llegamos justo a tiempo y disfrutamos de una hora aproximadamente de rezos.
Ese día estaba acompañada de mi mamá, mi hermano menor, mi abuelo y su mujer. Todos estábamos vestidos de amarillo y blanco, es una tradición entre los cubanos, no es obligatorio pero nos gustó seguir con las costumbres.
Pasamos junto a la mesa de las velas, encendimos cada uno, una vela y la colocamos en una mesa llena de cera indicando que las personas que nos antecedieron también encendieron las suyas, allí se dejan encendidas junto a los deseos pedidos hasta consumirse.
De recuerdo mi mamá compró llaveros para cada uno, a parte yo adquirí una virgencita de las pequeñas y mi abuelo se compró una Virgen muy grande cumpliendo una de sus antiguas promesas.
La virgencita expuesta en el Santuario es la Patrona de Cuba, de allí el respeto y la admiración que le tenemos los cubanos. El medallón y la capa son de oro, ese día mi mamá me contó cómo hace muchísimos años dos ladrones robaron en la iglesia y en menos de 24 horas se halló todo lo hurtado.
Como buenos cubanos no dejamos de sacarnos fotos de recuerdo estando en la capilla (hay una parte en la que no se permiten fotos) y en la escalera para subir al Santuario, porque eso si, que escaleras más largas, ese día probé mi resistencia subiendo escalones.
La experiencia fue muy bonita, le pedí pocos deseos a la virgencita y espero que me los conceda todos, el lugar es muy bonito, si vistan Cuba y vienen de paso a Santiago se los recomiendo muchísimo.

Looking at this photo takes me back to the first time I visited the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre in Santiago with my family. Doing the math was the first and the only time I have visited the place. The photo made me feel nervous because when we arrived the first thing I could see was a very very big church and the same yellow tone of the photo of the initiative.
I want to start by saying that it is one of the most visited places in my country, because it encompasses very beautiful traditions, the installation is filled with tourists and natives of the island.
On the Copper Road we bought several bouquets of sunflowers to put on the Virgin.
We were going against the clock because we were going to miss the Mass schedule and fortunately we arrived just in time and enjoyed about an hour of prayers.
That day I was accompanied by my mom, my younger brother, my grandfather and his wife. We were all dressed in yellow and white, it is a tradition among Cubans, it is not mandatory but we liked to follow the customs.
We passed by the table of candles, lit each one, a candle and placed it on a table filled with wax indicating that the people who preceded us also lit theirs, there they are left lit next to the wishes requested until consumed.
As a souvenir my mom bought keychains for each one, besides I bought a little virgin of the small ones and my grandfather bought a very big Virgin fulfilling one of his old promises.
The little virgin exhibited in the Shrine is the Patron Saint of Cuba, hence the respect and admiration that Cubans have for her. The locket and the cape are made of gold, that day my mom told me how many years ago two thieves stole in the church and in less than 24 hours everything stolen was found.
As good Cubans we do not stop taking souvenir photos of ourselves being in the chapel (there is a part where photos are not allowed) and on the stairs to climb to the Shrine, because that yes, what longer stairs, that day I tested my endurance climbing steps.
The experience was very nice, I asked few wishes to the little virgin and I hope she will grant me all of them, the place is very nice, if you are visiting Cuba and coming to Santiago I highly recommend them.
