WE84: Bob Marley's Reggae Music and it's Role in Africa's Liberation Struggle: A Case Study of Africa Unite
Music is a soulish food and it's only a dead person that hates music. You might dislike one genre of music and love the other. Whether you love A or B music is music. Reggae music being our focus today is interesting and loved by many all over the world. My entry for WE84 will crisscross around ✨Option one which says:
Tell us about a piece of music or song you love, that moves you, and makes you feel deeply. Share the link to the music if you like and my topic centres on Bob Marley's reggae music and how it has helped as instrument to unseat the Apartheid regime in South Africa. My special thanks goes to the #Weekend Community Admin @galenkp and his team for sustaining the community vision and choosing an amazing topic: Music for this week's engagement. Reggae Music and Africa's Liberation From European Imperialism
One of Bob Marley's reggae music that's targeted towards the liberation of Africa was his Africa Unite. Bob Marley played a significant role in the liberation of some African countries who where still under European Imperialism beyond the 1960s such as Zimbabwe and South Africa. In South Africa's case they've subdued by a white minority rule named Apartheid. Apartheid was a serious issue that brought segregation of the majority Africans. Bob Marley's Africa Unite was an instrument for the unity of Africans all over the world.
The reggae music is inspired by the Rastafarianism and Bob Marley's faith in Rastafarianism has influenced the unity of Africa linking the religion to Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia. Another influencer of the African Unite track was Marcus Garvey, the founder of the Black Star Shipping Line that was responsible for the return of freed slaves from Europe and the Americas back to Africa.
In 1979, Bob Marley visited Africa for the first in conjunction to help in the liberation struggle in Africa. In 1980, he performed at the Independence of Zimbabwe after propagating the liberation through his reggae music.Source
Africa Unite and the Formation of OAU
The disunity of Africans in the continent was ended through the propagation of Bob Marley's hit track Africa Unite. Today, Africa has an organization like the European Union.
My Inspiration from Bob Marley's Reggae Music
The Reggae Music is not just a mere music but it served as weapon against European Imperialists in Africa and other parts of the world where black oppression was high and idea is to preach political freedom and partake in the liberation of his fellow black people. As an Africa, his music has inspired me to think about my nation and join in the liberation as corruption and bad leadership as is the case in Nigeria. Bob Marley and his reggae music will always be remembered by the entire world.
I finally say that music is a food to my soul and inspirational music such as Marley's reggae music is more than music but an instrument for transportation. Please make it a date Bob Marley's Africa Unite and Exodus: Movement of Jah People.
Bob Marley was one of many musicians local and international who used the power of music to make for change. More songs that carried meaning through those dark days.
Relating directly to Apartheid, Stevie Wonder "It's Wrong (Apartheid)", Brenda Fassie "Black President" Local, Johnny Clegg and Savuka "Asim'bonanga" Local, Miriam Makeba "Ndod'emnyama (Beware Verwoerd)" Local, Eddy Grant "Gimme Hope Jo'Anna".
Yes music helps make change, able to reach many more people.
Thanks for stopping by. Music is one tool for change if used properly.
