Harvesting my First Palm Fruits + Milling Machine and Processing
Hi friends it's another year and the beginning of a new farming season from this part of the world. Palm tree is one of the blessed plant on earth. This is because it's lifespan supercedes that of humans. A palm tree can live for over a 150 year and every part of the palm tree is useful to the owner. Early last I purchased a farmland in a rural areas for cultivating some crops but what attracted me was the numerous palm trees that was scattered all over the farmland. The inability of the former owner to recognize the usefulness of the palm tree is one of my greatest achievement last year. This post contains the rewards for the purchase. Greetings from @salvadornkpara.
Harvesting the Palm Fruits
It's not really our work to harvest palm fruits, there are specific people in Nigeria that knows the job very well they're the Akwa Ibom people. Immediately I saw that my palm fruits were ripe, I called them to negotiate the prices of cutting down the palm fruits. The total number of palm tree that has ripe fruits were about 20. After negotiation we agreed on the price and they took just a full day to cut all the palm fruits from the tree. From the farm in the forest we transported them back to the village for milling.
My Palm Fruits at the Mill
Prior to now palm fruits were milled locally but it's so tedious and time wasting. From the quantity mentioned above, it could take a week to finish the milling process, but with the availability of the milling machine, the process is much easier than the hand milling. My palm fruits arrived the mill and immediately the process began.
Preserving Nuts for Palm Kernel Oil
Since every part of the Palm tree is important and useful immediately requested for the kernel to be preserved for me. I transported the kernels to me house and dried the kernel under the heat of the sun for some weeks to get the nuts dried up in order to extract enough oil from it. I observed the kernels if they're dried, immediately I saw that they're dried I invited an old woman who is good at processing kernel oil to get the best out of the kernel.
