The 1st ODI match of the series was played between Ireland vs Zimbabwe yesterday at Civil Service Cricket Club, Belfast. Zimbabwe beat Ireland by 38 runs. And lead the series by 1-0.
Ireland won the toss and elected to bowl first. Zimbabwe have started well. Zimbabwean opener Regis Chakabva has gone for only 2 runs then Craig Ervine came out and made 71 runs partnership with Brendan Taylor. Taylor scored 49 runs in 45 balls including 7 fours and a six. Craig Ervine scored 64 runs in 96 balls including 7 fours. Sean Williams scored 33 runs in 57 balls including 4 fours. Zimbabwean all rounder Sikandar Raza played an amazing innings and scored unbeaten 59 runs in 44 balls including 5 fours and 2 sixes. Wesley Madhevere scored 19 runs and Luke Jongwe 18 runs. Finally Zimbabwe scored total 266 runs by 7 wickets.
Irish all rounder Simi Singh bowled very economical though he took only 1 wicket for 22 runs in 10 overs including 2 maiden overs. Andy McBrine also picked up one wicket for 26 tuns in 10 overs. Other Irish bowlers bowled very expensive. Craig Young, Mark Adair, Joshua Little, Dockrell each picked up one wicket.
In reply Ireland have started very well. William Porterfield and Paul Stirling made together 64 runs opening partnership. Paul Stirling scored 32 runs in 47 balls including 3 fours and a six. William Porterfield scored 75 runs in 110 balls including 9 fours. Harry Tector scored 50 runs in 55 balls including a four and two sixes. But others Irish batsman totally failed to play a creditable innings and Ireland failed to chase down the target. Finally Ireland bowled out for 228 runs in 48.4 overs.
Zimbabwean bowlers performed their best. Blessing Muzarabani picked up 4 wickets for 29 runs in 9.4 overs. Wellington Masakadza picked up two wickets for 40 runs in 9 overs. Sean Williams also picked up two wickets for 42 runs in 8 overs. Luke Jongwe and Wesley Madhevere each picked up one wicket. Sikandar Raza was player of the match.
