THE OLDER I GET
The first time I heard this song was on a video clip from YouTube and the lyrics really hit a nerve. Sasha Sloan is a 26 years old American musician and song writer and she has a knack for sad girl pop and I adore her because she taps into conversations that people would rather avoid and she acknowledges the presence of the shadows lurking around in our memories and subconscious.
Arguably, I think you'd be able to relate more to this song if you're are/were a victim of a failed marriage. The song started from the musician's effort to shield herself from her parent's brawls then wishing she was a member of a different family and growing older, she comes in face with the realization that alot of things are beyound our control and what we feel is important about this world, isn't always.
The lyrics are really beautiful and truly,I stopped expecting a metahuman in my parents and I see now that they can be weak as I can and just as vulnerable. Love doesn't always work and they are not exempted, not in the ways the 10 year old me wanted them to be. I know it's important that we're able to look up to our parents but we should somewhat expect from them what we'd expect from ourselves.
I'd highly recommend this song, not just for it's soothing and salving effect but also for the insight.
Sasha Sloan is just a banger. Her lyrics seem to hit spot on. Check out Normal, the lyrics and rhythm makes you want to explore the world. Also, Her song Older, like you said, made me see my mom in a new light. I just looked at her one day abd realized she's also like me. She had dreams and expectations. I am a victim of failed marriage and tbh, it sucks.
