Amazing Discovery of Rice Cake Vendor in the Park: Chewy Palitaw Coated With Grated Coconut and Topped with Mixed White Sugar and Roasted Sesame Seeds
I can't really remember the last time I had Palitaw, it's been so long I already forgot the taste of it. "Palitaw" is some kind of sweet rice cake, it is flattened and could be round or oblong. But here in our place, we often had the oblong shape. And Ka Donie is the best maker of Palitaw for me, which I love to eat whenever she goes house to house just so she can sell her "kakanin."
She often carries them in her head using a round woven basket while she also carries a big casserole for one more kind of merienda, like pinaltok, tinutong, champorado, and many more. Sadly, Ka Donie already stopped selling those sweet dessert snacks and just sells vegetable dishes in the morning. I actually already missed her kakanin and other snacks that she sells.

I had the chance to eat Palitaw again the other day with Mama. It was just by chance, and I never thought I would find it in here. We're at the park, then we're on a different bench this time. The spot where we haven't visited yet. We're here to pass the time as well as to rest. It's too hot, as you can see in the photo. Mama is a bit annoyed too because her internet connection is so slow, same with mine. The free WiFi's not working either, so it's really annoying.

Anyways, the Palitaw seller is actually just sitting near the hut where we're staying. And I thought they were also just resting in there just like us. I only discover that they are selling something when we're about to leave already, and we have to walk by to where they're staying, and my eyes catch something in there. So I look back, and yes, it is really a Palitaw. I told Mama about it, but she's not as excited as I am. Lol.

So here it is, I decided to get 3 orders of it. One order costs 20 pesos, you'll get three pieces of the palitaw. And I really thought the toppings for their Palitaw had peanuts on it, but they used sesame seeds instead, they mixed it in with white sugar. I actually prefer it with peanuts, it's my fault because I didn't ask. Aigoooo. Ka Donie used peanuts on her Palitaw, and it's seriously the best!
By the way, aside from her Palitaw, she's also selling vegetables here. She also has that packed onions with garlic, she even has Sampaloc. Seeing it made me crave a sour soup using Sampaloc. UwU

And here's the Palitaw, it was coated with grated coconut. Actually, this rice cake has no taste, no sweetness, or even flavor in it. What gives this rice cake a flavor is the toppings, which are the white sugar and the sesame seeds mixed together. With the sweetness of the sugar and the roasted sesame seeds, that will give enough flavor in this Palitaw. And the fact that it is not too sweet is what makes me like it. And I can control how much sugar I can put into it.
I ordered 3 Palitaw, which cost me 60 pesos. That's like 9 pieces of Palitaw. Of course it's not right to eat it alone, some of them are for the oldies. ┏(^0^)┛.

What's your fav toppings for it? I think marami ng klase ng Palitaw now ano. UwU
Uy nakakamiss yung palitaw! My grandma and I use to cook it together when I was younger. Ginagawa rin namin syang parang minatamis 🫶🏼
Oh, yong niluluto sa tinunaw na asukal? Patabol? Oi sarap yan, isa pa yan sa diko na natitikman, matagal naaaaaa

I love palitaw!! It also took me years of not eating it until recently I remembered it and searched it online to find a seller nearby haha. It’s one of my favorite kakanin apart from carioca, sapin-sapin, cassava cake (is that considered kakanin?😆), and champorado of course.
We always had sesame seeds and never heard of the peanut as the toppings. Now I can imagine how good it would taste but I can remember Tikoy instead. It’s also became my favorite recently 😍
