Sakura & Snowfall
Sakura & Snowfall? We are having a late dusting of snow here in Tokyo today. It comes at an odd time as it was just 76degrees here the other day. In addition, this week also happens to be the week when the sakura trees begin to go into full bloom. It's a hugely popular time to go sit and have picnics under the trees as they shed their petals like pink snow. Instead though snow is falling. This actually made me think it would be a good opportunity to take some pictures with the sakura blossoms and snow so off I went!
There aren't a ton of sakura trees in my immediate area, but there are a few. The first two are next to one another along the river bank near the train station.
These two trees had been pruned so almost all the branches that carry blooms are gone. So I continued down the river path to see what other trees I could find that were blooming.
After walking for a few minutes I came upon this tree in full bloom.
One of the challenges on this gloomy day was getting nice pictures. However this one blossom contrasted great with the green moss growing on the branches.
While the tree is in bloom, I'm not sure for how long. Some of the blossoms are already wilting and it had me wondering if it was due to the cold weather or age?
Looking back as I continued on.
A few doors down was this tree stump, covered in mushrooms with snow building up on it.
As I reached an overpass that leads to my home I decided to head into the neighborhood and see if I could find a few more trees. The path was covered in snow.
Just around the corner I found another nice tree in bloom.
It was a really nice looking tree despite the bad weather.
Moving on there was one more tree before I made it home.
This tree seems to have been blooming for a week already. My landlord has the same variety in his back yard and it was blooming a week ago too.
I'm a bit bummed I missed this tree when it first started blooming. It must have looked amazing only a few days ago.
One last look back.
This is a picture of the small farm the above tree sits in. I hope the green onions(negi) don't spoil due to the freezing weather.
I'm planning on visiting some of the more popular areas in Tokyo for sakura viewing this week. I hope that this cold front that has come through didn't ruin blooming in other parts. Wish me luck and thanks for reading!
Spring is approaching fast and flowers are beginning to bloom again. cool images
Thanks. Ya, it was here a few days before this storm. Now, looks like a few more days before it warms up again.
A few more days is worth waiting but before then enjoy the little snow you see. Have a great day
