THE MYSTERY OF SOCIAL MEDIA.

A beautiful day here my beloved hivers, it is wonderful to wake up on a Good Friday with few activities at hand. And I used this opportunity to wish us all a Happy Easter celebration.
Today I find it a privilege to join the contest and to write on the Social Media Evolution given to us on the @hive-learners discord community and I believe we will find this article interesting and inspiring.

THE INTRODUCTION

I came in contact with social media during the days of the early version of Facebook, then came in 2go, Badoo and several of them that I can't even remember. It was a wonderful time to explore the world back then.
At the time, all I wanted was to explore and make new friends outside my country, so it will be like I have friends outside Nigeria. I did know there was something bigger social media could offer. I thought it was all about chatting, making friends, connecting with people and all that.

In the year 2020, we all saw the effect of social media both the good and the bad sides of it. How it was negatively used to cause so much fear in the world and also to influence the lives of everyone.

This makes me understand there's more to social media than just chatting, and connecting. Everyone's life can be affected by social media. It is no longer just chatting or connecting with people platform.

THE REASONS I LOVE SOCIAL MEDIA

• Because it is an effective marketing tool: Aside from using social media for chatting and connecting, I so much love social media because it is an effective tool for marketing. The truth is anything can be sold on social media if you have the right marketing strategy and you're connected to the right audience. This has helped me a lot in my few years in network marketing. And I can say I owe social media a lot. Most of my works and activities are on social media and I am not just here because I want to chat but because I have something valuable to offer. And social media has made this so easy for me. This is one reason I love social media.

• It aid to fasten the means of communication: Social media has so much to offer us, looking back to 2020 during the locked-up period (it was not a lockdown, as the people were locked up) social media made it so easy to communicate with our love ones, especially with many innovations on how we can reach out to one another through video calls, conference calls and so on. It was as though we are together. I can not wait to experience what the metaverse will feel like. Since we can be with anyone as though we are together. Communication and fellowship have become so easy through this means. This is the second reason I love social media.

WHY I FEEL SOCIAL MEDIA IS BAD

• It is a medium for fake news and misinformation: whatever has an advantage surely has a disadvantage. In this case, social media has been seen as an opportunity to be misused to create fear in the world. Let's travel back to 2020, where we all saw the mess social media caused. How everyone lived in fear due to the wrong information that was sent through the media. People now lived in fear because of what they saw or read on social media. This is one reason I feel social media is bad.

• Secondly, abuse of privacy: Last year when Whatsapp came up with their new privacy policy, which I think was not necessary, this policy jas an effect on individual privacy according to my research. Did you ask yourself why it was made mandatory or compulsory to accept before you can use their service? It is because they did not tell the public what they need to know. I don't trust that platform anymore. Social media like WhatsApp and Facebook that I know for now can tamper with individuals' privacy. So here is my second thought on that.

IN CONCLUSION:

Social Media is a great tool if we use it rightly. There's so much money on the internet through the use of social media. I have made good friends here on social media that are answerable more than my immediate family. And my business has grown through my connection with like-minded people. We can make social media a better place if we join hands in fighting again fake news and wrong information.
