INCOMING FLOOD OR WHAT? 😲

There are things I don't want to experience in life, one of which is Flood. I have heard people talk about it, I have seen it with my eyes, but I just don't want to experience it.
In some communities in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Flood has become something that people expect to come. As though it is a good thing. They make preparations for it, so it will not get them unprepared. This has been a yearly disaster that happens during the rainy season.

Just this morning as I was about to leave the house, I got in front of the walkway and this was what I saw. There is no place for me to walk through. The presence of stagnant water like this around a house can cause a risk to public health through faecal contamination and also a home where mosquitoes can breed. This may cause those living around the environment to be exposed to mosquitoes bites, causing malaria or some other effect of the dirty water.

One of the major causes of Malaria in Nigeria is stagnant water, as there's always very poor maintenance of the drainage system. Thousands of people die globally due to malaria. Yet there's a very simple way to avoid the cause rather than go for the cure of malaria.

If it is Flood, a regular occurrence in the state, then it will be very bad, especially now that most students are not around as it is a university environment, most students live off-campus, and they have some valuable properties in their houses.

My point here is, that the Landlords and Landladys of these houses of them don't show any concerns about walking to avoid this kind of a mess. Their concern is only to take the rent, increase the rent and no proper renovations in some of the houses.

This kind of contaminated water contains different kinds of bacteria fungi with other parasites that cause water-borne diseases. The longer there is stagnant water in an environment, there is a chance of attracting other related problems.

I could not even walk and put my feet into the water, as I had to use another route to where I was going. Hopefully one of these days, God blessing me, I will personally work on some special drainage system for them before living.

Sometimes I don't understand the flood issue in the south-south. We've not even fully entered the rainy season and this? But don't worry, I'm sure I'll dry up.

The rainy season is one season I dread because it comes along with flood. The government are bot really helping in building good drainage systems so the citizens suffer. I pray this year's effects will be lesser.

Omoor, and we have not even entered rainy season. Although people do say poor drainage system in these places are too much for a place which is along the coast or water logged. For the landlords, theirs is to increase rent as per inflation, collect it and leave their tenants st the brute end.
It is well...

My first thought seeing the photo was, "that small water?" Lol...just because I used to walk in water like everyday before because of the poor condition of the roads. we really have suffered in this country

I certainly first thought of Malaria looking at that stagnant water! That's unfortunate for sure. One thing we should try to do if we can is not to rely on others like landlords to fix a problem. If we endeavor to spend some time and fix a problem ourselves it will improve our surroundings. If we are able to do that in a lot of situations we can improve whole communities! I know this isn't an easy thing or something everyone can do but trying to do a little digging or angling the ground to flow the water downward towards the bushes or somewhere that runs away could help reduce or eliminate the water problem!

It also looks like the ground has a lot of clay in it, which doesn't help with drainage of water!

Thanks so kindly my friends. It's beyond what is seen in those pictures. As certainly there's is a drainage system but it seems not be allow the water pass through. Flood doesn't respect drainage.

Seriously! This is really bad and inhumane.
It is well oo! God no go shame us..
