Playstation Classic Mini - review

The PlayStation Classic console was supposed to be a return to beloved nostalgia. The Sony-branded creation has been on the market for about 9 months now, but it's only now that it's worth taking a look at.

Tough beginnings...

Gamers went crazy as soon as the first mention of the PlayStation Classic console appeared. We hoped for a wonderful return to the days of childhood. These passed on the immortal game Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, or Grand Theft Auto. Game prices in those days were...about the same as they are now. However, not many people in the 90s could afford to buy every first release. What's more, access to many of them was not that easy. Piracy flourished on a massive scale. A lot of time passed between the PlayStation console and PlayStation Classic. Gamers have had time to start their families, give their time to corporations, and grow old for many years. Subsequent news about the PSC console was less than cheerful and groundbreaking. It quickly became apparent that the equipment will not be equipped with a disc drive, and the "drive" itself is just a dummy. To the console's memory implemented 20 known games from the era of PSX. There is no way to put your own disc there...

Another problem that strikes the eye is that the games run slightly slower than the original productions on the PSX. The pad is not very comfortable and has been stripped of its analog knobs. Was it worth the price of about 400 PLN (1 PLN = $0.23)? Definitely not, so it gradually fell, a fair amount in my opinion - 129 PLN. Sony completely failed, but this does not mean that you can not play. But why from such a rich library of games that appeared on the console PlayStation we have access to 20? It was enough to put the drive and give players the opportunity to play every possible game that survived on the shelves. Officially, it is, therefore, very poor. On the plus side, however, we can count the presence of two pads in the set and an attractive minimalist design of the device.

Where Sony can't...

There modders will help. All you need is a flash drive, an appropriate charger, which will power both the console and the memory stick and you can play whatever games you want. Wait, is the editor encouraging piracy? Of course not. After all, I assume that gamers have the old PSX discs with the characteristic black underside. Just make a legal backup copy on a flash drive and enjoy your favorite games. To find the appropriate manual, type in google* Bleemsync guide*. Moreover, this type of software also allows you to improve the quality of textures. Some games may suffer from smoothness, but the beloved Tony Hawk ran very fast and looked extremely attractive. Is it possible to connect another pad? Yes, even a dualshock 4, although you'll need an adapter for this at £129.

The final verdict

The PlayStation Classic console is a misfire on Sony's part. However, modders were able to make something out of nothing. As a result, we got software that makes the hardware a real time machine. A sentimental journey full of wonderful memories awaits players. Bullet World, GTA 1 and 2, Tekken 3, Gran Turismo, Ridge Racer, the first Tomb Raiders, ISS Pro Evolution, Colin McRae and many others stand before us. The cost of the console and flash drive was about 160 PLN for me. Please note that not every charger will work with the console. I was able to connect the one from the iPhone. This issue is also described in the tutorials. I wholeheartedly recommend this equipment, but it's not due to the manufacturer. And what are your memories and favorite games?

I always felt like these consoles were made to scope the market and if they were received well they would release expansions for them with extra games. Then it backfired instead and if they ever announced their plans for such expansions they would have to go through a PR hell.

Yeah, it would be nice if this console had a CD drive :)

The first and only console I ever owned was this one. I remember playing Pepsi Man on one of these.
