Architectural Photography "Ancient Laxmi Narayan Temple, Chamba District, India"
Laxmi Narayan Temple, one of Chamba's most well-known temples, is noted for its exceptional architectural style and significant historical background. Other temples in the complex include the Gauri Shankar Temple, which was built by Yugkar Varman, the son of Sahil Varman, and the Radha Krishna Temple, which was built by Rani Sarda (Raja Jit Singh's wife), the Shiva Temple of Chandragupta, and Rani Sarda.
A metal statue of Garuda that Raja Balabhadra Verma built stands watch over the front gate. The shrine's most recent addition all through history addressed the Mughal dread. When Aurangzeb, the emperor, gave the order to destroy the temple in 1678, Raja Chhatra Singh added gilded heights to it.
Raja Sahil Verman built the Laxmi Narayana Temple, Chamba's biggest temple, in the tenth century. It has Bimana, or Shikhara and Garbhgriha, as well as a modest antarala and a mantapa. The temple has wooden chattries and a shell roof on top to fend against winter.
The roof's wheel-shaped form provides insulation from the elements. It has a metal image of Lord Vishnu's mount, Garuda. It's a gorgeous setting with incredible architectural significance. Additionally, it has a mandapa-style building. The entire area, which comprises of six temples lined up in a row from north to south, honours Lord Shiva and Vishnu.
According to legend, the precious marble used to create the idol of Lord Vishnu in this temple was brought in from the Vindhyachal Mountains. It is thought that Sahil Varman, the former ruler of the area, killed his eight sons in order to obtain the marble, and that his eldest son, Yugkara, was ultimately successful in doing so. In reality, he was also attacked by the thieves, but thanks to a saint, he was able to defend himself.
Laxmi Narayan Temple is open daily from early in the morning at 6 am until noon and again from 2:30 pm till 8:30 pm. It is still accessible to devotees twice daily in two halves.
