“The END of HiveBloPoMo Challenge (and ARTZ)” by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

Today is the 30th of April (as I write this), which means this is the final day of the April #hiveblopomo challenge. I attempted to write a new post EACH DAY for the entire month of April, and with this entry, I have successfully completed that self-imposed nonsense! In addition to pressing the “Publish” button for thirty days in a row, I also created a brand new haiku for each post. (Golly!) Most of those have been terrible, but I find that entertaining. Here’s one more:

#30

Finally finished
Was it worth it? I don’t know…
A least it’s over!

It’s funny to make fun of my personal efforts, but I DO think this type of exercise is worthwhile. Forcing yourself to write is sometimes the only way to get words on paper (or onto the computer screen, for you new-fangled-types.)

Joop joop! Writing is difficult. It requires concentration, imagination, and commitment. People might or might not READ what an author has written, but the very act of writing allows a writer to THINK. Dangerous and unpleasant thoughts can be expelled, and new ideas can be discovered (perhaps even created), depending on how much effort the writer is willing to put into the work.

Sometimes, I even like to use writing as a Zen-esque meditation…

"The Situation Shifts"

[Digital drawing created on my phone.] I did not intend this piece to be a self portrait. I hope you don't think that's what this is. It's more of a psychic landscape, or perhaps an "automatic drawing" in the Surrealist style. I just let my imagination go...

"Messed Up Critter"

messed up critter.png

[Digital drawing created on my phone.] In the future, a strange micro-biological creature will be created that can break off parts of its body and continue to control them through psionic means. This will make these monsters hard to kill, but they will be great if you lock your keys in your house and need someone to slip in through a mail slot and unlock the door for you. There's more to this story, of course, but you'll have to wait a few years to read about it!

"That's Normal, Right?"

[Ballpoint pen on notebook page with digital embellishments and color.] Mornings are strange, like 4:AM... Is it NIGHT still? Is it a new day? Depends on how well you sleep, I guess...

"Hero (Vers.)"

hero (vers.).jpg

[Digital drawing created (with a kiss of chaos) on my phone...] Ally Gator was a decent reptile, until that one crazy night when his car was struck by a glowing orange meteorite - and he became a SUPER GATOR! Now, he's not just a nice guy...he's a HERO...

Finally, this is last night’s thrilling Tweeterz goodnight art share:

“Tonight is here once again. (Seems to happen every damn night.) So here's another #freetolookat #art share!”

“Good night, folks...”

Made me smile. And you're right @richardfyates. Sometimes you have force yourself to write. I do it often, then find myself writing more than I original intended.

I like the Messed Up.

Thanks for sharing.
