"Can't Do Nuthin'" by RFY (HF)
[Liner pen, paper collage, tape, and finger on notebook page with digital embellishments and color.] Haunting of the house. The ghosts must be worried about something, cuz it keeps pacing!!! (Maybe it needs a smoke...) ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Halfamind Zine (Oct. 2023)" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[PDF zine based on a hand-drawn THING that I made on folded cardstock. Four pages.] Made this one day. Colored it digitally with a free app in my phone. Made it into a zine for some reason! 23 copies originally conjured!!! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Hey Horus" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Liner pen and felt pen on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] I'm fairly certain that this is another example of a "free-scribble." This is like a "freewrite," but one in which I can write OR draw whatever I want, instead of just writing... Weird things happen when I just LET GO and let stuff fall from my pens... ---Richard F. "Words (24 Oct. 2023)" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Digital drawing and "writing" created in MS Paint!] I made this for a thing... Oh, yeah... I made this as a visual thing for a post I stuck to Bluesky that didn't have a visual. It's like a logo, I guess. It's super simple, but I like it. (I often like simple.) I do not expect this to EVER sell. The point is to make stuff and share stuff... Sharing is caring... ---Richard F. "All So Real" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Digital drawing and writing created with MS Paint!] I will destroy you all.... Oh, wait... Wrong art piece! Ha! This one kind of explains itself. There is no hidden lore in the "drawing." Do not look for it... ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Loveland Amoeba" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Liner pen and gel pen on reclaimed paper with digital embellishments and color.] The crazy mutant amoeba, Clint, from Loveland, Arkansas, is a fan of "college rock" and "alternative music." Yes, he has tattoos. No, they are not professionally done... ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Face to Face" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Liner pen and gel pen on notebook page with digital embellishments and color manipulation.] Some couples have limited success, not like Mariah and ME. We are happy because we are both very weird. Find a weird person, if you're weird... ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Desperate Wolf" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Digital drawing created on my phone.] Obviously, this is a werewolf. The only question that I have is, "Why is this werewolf purple?" Maybe it's just a case of strange lighting... I don't know. Also, the werewolf itself looks VERY worried about something. I hope it's getting the support it needs at home! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

Monday Freewrite
30 Oct. 2023 - At home. Dropped the wife off at work and dropped the granddaughter off at school. Now, I have some time. I haven't showered yet, haven't made the bed, haven't even decided which character I'm going to be today!!! Just watching some Cartoonist Kayfabe on the YoooTooobs [ https://www.youtube.com/c/CartoonistKayfabe/videos ], and I'm thinking about why I'm doing all the gunk that I do...
GUNK...
I don't know. What AM I doing? I'm still drawing and filling up notebooks with nonsense words. Many, many, many notebooks full of gunk. And there is that conversation between my scribbled bits, the camera on my phone, and the fake, digital color added with a no-longer-supported, free app on the smart device. This makes the "doodles" and "scribbles" into "finished works." (HA!) Enjoy this process. (I do.) Just making stuff. Entertaining myself and then sharing my chuckles with the world... OR a very small, very specific, very odd segment of the world.
BUT if I'm making even ONE humanoid crack a smile from time to time, that's cool, right? The world can be a shit-bag of a place, but making the granddaughter laugh and making the wife feel happy and entertaining me-self... All positives. Right??? Jah?
Today, I have a stack of empty boxes (cereal and snack stuff) to cut up for use as future art materials, and I have a handful of paper comics that I'm considering reading. Will I have time? Am I too time-slooped? I'm MIRED, mentally. I don't like to start things and have to drop them to deal with the real world, thus I tend to only STRETCH on the days when I don't have babysitting duties... (That's why I don't paint very often...) I also love to write (especially fiction), but I NEED quiet and time to get the story to grow in my head. Those are rare (VERY rare) elements in my world... I could try to find those things (you know, like by turning off the YoooTooobs), but I'm also hungry for new info, so it's a decision.
Writing... It's hard. It's not just difficult, but it has an even smaller audience than my silly drawings. Work, work, work, but for what? Making stuff has to be enjoyable (for me), and it is, and that's why I keep doing it. I'm a crusty old dude, now, so I don't HAVE to do anything that I don't want to... I could just sit on the porch in a rocking chair with a beer in one hand and a fly-swatter in the other yelling at kids who make too much noise when they go by the house, and be the crazy old guy on the block (weird old freak with a scraggly beard and a crazed look in his eye...) That sounds great, doesn't it? But, instead, I'm making weird cartoons and telling bad jokes. I'll stick with that for a while longer! Yeah...

---Holy Foolio!
You are so damn prolific, you say you don't have time but I am impressed 😂
Ha! I guess I just know how much time I waste!!
👌
You are so in tune with your creativity! It's inspiring. I think that the free writing/drawing exercises you talk about are truly some of the most therapeutic things we can do for your self. It's a great way to rinse out the unconscious. I also feel that it's easier to connect with art when you get a sense that the person is being honest about what's happening inside. It becomes very relatable and also seems to make more sense, even if technically doesn't.
Aside from all of that.. this stuff is just really fun! Awesome to see that zine culture is alive and well too.
Now I wanna make stuff! Nice work. Your mind is intriguing
