My first encounter with the 'Gate of Freedom and Democracy'.
Freedom and democracy go hand in hand. Although as a nation we have a long way to go to achieve true democracy. But seeing something representing the significance of the terms gave me a little chill.
I'm talking about the newly built gate at the Dhaka University campus, in Bangladesh. It was built back in 2020 but I never got the chance to enter through it till that day. The university has a long history of direct influence and involvement in our freedom fight and current politics as well. The students from major political parties have their separate political bunch as well. And they have direct involvement in our national politics.
There's no need to say how significant this game means to the overall value of the campus, it's political culture along with our history.
As a former student of the University of Dhaka, I have been to this campus thousands of times. Even after the construction of this gate, I went to the campus several times. But usually, I took a different path so never encountered this gate.
I wouldn't say, that architecture can impress many. But it looks good to my eyes. There was no entrance to the campus till this gate was built. So you can call it the university gate as well. There is some detailed work on the wall of the gate but overlapping posters on the wall wouldn't let you see the beauty of it.
Also, the surrounding of the gate seems very scarred to me. There were hundreds of local vehicles and random waste here which makes everything look messy.
The gate is not something anyone would visit to see only. I was also not there for it but had some paperwork at the campus. I went to the campus through the narrow streets of Dhaka on a rickshaw. It felt great to get to see the old streets that I used to walk down a lot when I lived on the campus.
There were many new buildings, brand shops, etc. But one thing never changes and that is the messy appearance of the city. Unlike the campus, there will surely be a lot of waste on the streets, crowd, and traffic on the street.
But when you will enter the campus through this gate, you will feel the sudden refreshment. It's a lot greener there. The fresh air and the less populated area will make you feel a lot better, I can guarantee you.
That was my insignificant encounter with the Freedom and democracy gate. The busy day went well with a little bit of refreshment on the campus.
Have a good day, everyone.
Interesting gate 😊 I can see that it changes in suddenly lots of green. That alone makes it cooler as trees provide shade and change the temperature around them.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great week 👋🏻🌺
Yes, you got it right. The campus bring a lot of refreshness in our gloomy city days.
Thanks, so good to know.
Have a wonderful week 👋🏻😊

Students in universities are often molded by teachings that shapes their political opinions.
That is veey true and it is an effective way to build next gen politicians as well.
২০২০? নাকি আরো আগে থেকেই এটা এখানে? 🤔
I found the info on Google. Moreover, I can't remember if I have seen this before 2020. Im not sure about the date though.
During my admission period, I did see it there, which is before 2020, that's why I was confused and thought of asking. As far as I have found, it was built around 2015.
I feel the same when I enter in my University. And in case of politics I won't say a word because whatever is going on in not the true politics.
I agree. I also am not influenced by any policies of our country. It is unfortunate that so many young people lose interest in politics for this type of environment.
A very detailed design of the gate if the tiles were put one by one. Also, a nice landmark because of its design. 😊

I think the same. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

A cool gate that represents a good cause. It's good you finally got to experience it. I haven't been to my university campus in a long time. From what I have seen from the streets it has much changed. Maybe one of these days I will have to take an alumni walk, hehe
Sure, do that. Reunite in an alumni, it will bring back so many memories!
It looks old but its unique and love the design😍
Thanks for saying so.
