At Shahbag Flower Market.

This is the largest wholesale and retail flower market in Bangladesh. As the biggest flower market in Dhaka - the capital city, you can find many local and foreign species of flowers available.

The roadside of Shahbag is full of different flower shops, as many as hundreds or more. Along with flower selling, the shops provide other services such as car decoration and stage decoration with flowers, etc. During marriage ceremonies, birthdays, and different occasions, and on every special day, huge numbers of customers are attracted to these flower stalls. And every day many bridal cars come to be decorated with flowers.

Let me give you a visual tour of the place.

This is what the place looks like, nothing fancy but serves the purpose. If you walk down the road, all you can smell is the beautiful fragrance of the flowers.

The flowers are waiting to be sold.

There are many small flower shops all over the city. But you can never find the same price. Especially if you have a big occasion then it's a clever idea to come to this wholesale market to have a good deal. The flowers are fresh, they are customized, and they provide decor service; what else do we need?

The workers of the market work at night to unload the flower trucks. So if you visit the place early in the morning, like me, you will get to see many random staffs like some people are sleeping around the corner, some are taking their breakfast, and some are even brushing their teeth just beside the street.

Also, the place is not highly maintained, so you will get to see a lot of waste here and there.

But who hates flower petals as a waste?

I didn't buy anything this time. I was about to join a conference in a nearby place and was in a hurry. But I have many memories to buy random flowers, flowers on occasion from this place. Moreover, Shahbag is near my university campus so it used to be kind of our go-to place, back then.

I hope you enjoyed the visual tour.

Have a good day.

Hi @rem-steem. 😃 Shahbag flower market looks really cool. You took these pictures in the morning, right? We don't have flower markets here in my country maybe because we don't have interest in flowers culturally. But I do see artificial flowers for deocration on display in some stores and they are expensive.

I can imagine scenting the fragrance of flowers in this market. I wonder how they preserve the flowers from dying fast to meet their customers' needs. Thanks for sharing and have a nice day. 😊😊

Yes, it was the very morning. They usually water spray every now and then to keep the flowers fresh, also put them on clay/water to stay longer. I think the farm grown flowers are genetically modified to stay fresh for days.
I'm sorry to hear that you don't get fresh flower over there. Well, you can cultivate some if possible, they are so worth it.

Thanks. Have a good day.

I have not seen some of the rare flowers here in my country dear Remona. I so love the yellow ones. How I wish I could buy some seeds like these in the import goods. What a great Market Friday. Best regards and have a wonderful time.

Aww I see. Mary gold flowers are so elegant. Here in the Philippines, similar to it are the mums and. they are often used as decors too. What are good about those flowers are their ability to stay fresh even for a week. It’s nice to know about the golden Mary gold to be used for every kind of decor in your place dear. Have a wonderful day.

The visuals are gorgeous!! Who doesn't love the lovely wafting scent of flowers? How lucky to have the University so close to it. How much cheaper than the regular market are they - in general?

I cannot imagine going anywhere else when you need a large number of flowers! Can you imagine? I could live in the lap of floral luxury!! This was so wonderful! Thank you!

I enjoy learning about the world and how it is to live in your corner of it, and if there are solutions to making it better in any way. I find it interesting to compare, not by the world's standards, but, by how we find the quality of our life with different indicators than the world does. It is not always about the wealth in money, sometimes money means very little when there is no value behind it. You cannot buy health although you can take care of what you have. Being educated isn't always about schooling, but acquiring knowledge and using it for the better good and happiness of the society you are living in. It is with great pleasure that I read through this and all of the posts, with these thoughts in mind.

Don't miss the small things in your life, they usually make no noise but can be indicators of bigger things. I enjoy learning more about you and hope you feel the same, that is why I find it important to take the time to read a couple of #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment. It is important for a community to do this, learning about others, and getting to know each other. The fun is in getting to know people and making a positive contribution to community life. All this fun and money too. What is not to love? That is one of the reasons I joined Hive. How about you? :) I leave you with the guidelines. I hope you are having an amazing week!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

I remember how the students of the university used to become crazy buying flowers during Valentine's day. This flower marketplace was sure an advantage for us 😀😀
The flowers are more than 20% less in price if I compare with the actual retail price.
I know how much you live flowers. Have a good day.
