Hoy les contaré de un sitio al que he ido en dos oportunidades y que me gusta mucho, este lugar se llama las "Minas de Lobatera", donde se puede acceder luego de hacer algo de trekking, a unos increíbles pozos naturales.

Today I will tell you about a place that I have been to twice and that I like very much, this place is called the "Minas de Lobatera", where you can access after doing some trekking, to some incredible natural wells.

Iniciaré mostrándoles el mapa de la ruta completa desde el punto de partida hasta nuestro destino en las minas de Lobatera, con una distancia total recorrida de aproximadamente 59 km, esto comprende tanto lo que recorrimos en la unidad de transporte y lo que recorrimos mientras hacíamos el trekking. En este caso también viaje con una compañía de turismo, ellos me buscaron en la unidad de transporte en una avenida conocida de la ciudad, aproximadamente a las 7:30 de la mañana, desde allí tomamos rumbo hacia nuestro destino en las Minas de Lobatera. La primera parada la realizamos en el pueblo de Lobatera, para luego continuar nuestro camino hacia las piscinas naturales.

I will start by showing you the map of the complete route from the starting point to our destination in the Lobatera mines, with a total distance traveled of approximately 59 km, this includes both what we traveled in the transport unit and what we traveled while we were trekking. In this case I also traveled with a tour company, they picked me up in the transport unit in a well known avenue of the city, approximately at 7:30 in the morning, from there we headed towards our destination in the Lobatera Mines. The first stop was in the town of Lobatera, and then we continued on our way to the natural pools.

Como les comenté la primera parada la hicimos en un pueblo llamado Lobatera, específicamente en la Plaza Central del pueblo, llamada "Plaza Simón Bolívar", aquí podemos observar la iglesia que teníamos al frente de la plaza, allí disfrutamos de unos ricos aperitivos para desayunar y luego de un rato volvimos a montarnos a la unidad de transporte para seguir nuestro camino.

As I told you the first stop we made in a town called Lobatera, specifically in the Central Plaza of the town, called "Plaza Simon Bolivar", here we can see the church that we had in front of the square, there we enjoyed some delicious snacks for breakfast and after a while we got back on the transport unit to continue our way.

La unidad de transporte nos dejó en un punto donde tendríamos que comenzar una larga caminata, debido a que en algún punto del camino la unidad de transporte no podía seguir avanzando ya que la vía estaba algo accidentada.

Caminamos por caminos de tierra, arena, asfalto y concreto, contemplando siempre el paisaje a nuestro alrededor. Lo primero que encontramos fue un horno artesanal abandonado donde se realizaba la cocción de ladrillos de arcilla, luego de unos minutos más encontramos otro horno artesanal abandonado, pero este tenía una forma circular, nos acercamos para verlo y admirar su estructura, luego seguimos nuestro camino. Después de un rato encontramos unas cabras que venían en rebaño hacia nosotros.

The transport unit left us at a point where we would have to start a long walk, because at some point along the way the transport unit could not continue advancing since the road was somewhat uneven.
We walked along dirt, sand, asphalt and concrete roads, always contemplating the landscape around us. The first thing we found was an abandoned artisan oven where clay bricks were fired, after a few more minutes we found another abandoned artisan oven, but this one had a circular shape, we approached it to see it and admire its structure, then we continued our way. After a while we found some goats that came in herd towards us.

Antes de acercarme al primer horno artesanal quise realizar una foto desde la lejanía, ya que me gustaba el contraste entre el suelo árido, las montañas verdes en el fondo y el hermoso cielo azul de ese día.

Before approaching the first artisan oven I wanted to take a picture from a distance, as I liked the contrast between the arid soil, the green mountains in the background and the beautiful blue sky that day.

También me acerqué para tomarme una selfie un poco más cerca del primer horno artesanal.

I also went over to take a selfie a little closer to the first artisan oven.

El horno artesanal circular abandonado del que les había comentado anteriormente está un poco en ruinas, ya que debe tener bastantes años abandonado y sin uso.

The abandoned circular artisan kiln that I had told you about earlier is in ruins, as it must have been abandoned and unused for many years.

También aproveche la oportunidad para subirme en el y que me tomaran una fotografía. Subiéndome con mucho cuidado y bajándome también para no tener ningún accidente en este magnífico viaje.

I also took the opportunity to climb on it and have my picture taken. I got on very carefully and also got off so as not to have any accident on this magnificent trip.

Luego de entretenernos un rato con los hornos artesanales, seguimos caminando hasta llegar a una minera, la cual por lo que observamos también estaba abandonada o por lo menos no estaba en funcionamiento.

Cuando la vía lo permite, las unidades de transporte pueden llegar hasta este punto y es posible que el vigilante que se encuentra allí permita guardar, los vehículos o cualquier unidad de transporte ahí adentro a cambio de una pequeña colaboración monetaria.

After being entertained for a while with the artisan ovens, we continued walking until we reached a mining company, which from what we observed was also abandoned or at least was not in operation.
When the road allows it, the transport units can reach this point and it is possible that the guard who is there allows the vehicles or any transport unit to be stored there in exchange for a small monetary contribution.

Cerca de la minera encontramos este particular horno de ladrillos un poco mas industrial y menos artesanal, aunque sigue siendo rudimentario. Este horno si se encuentra activo y es diferente a los que vimos anteriormente, está compuesto por una estructura circular con un techo en forma de domo y al lado se encuentra una chimenea por donde escapan los gases y vapores producto de la cocción de los ladrillos de arcilla.

Near the mine we find this particular brick kiln a little more industrial and less artisanal, although it is still rudimentary. This oven is active and is different from the ones we saw before, it is composed of a circular structure with a dome-shaped roof and next to it is a chimney through which the gases and vapors from the firing of the clay bricks escape.

De nuevo, no desaproveche la oportunidad para que me tomaran una foto con la chimenea, y este fue el resultado.

Again, I did not miss the opportunity to have my picture taken with the chimney, and this was the result.

Muy cerca de este horno, se encuentra unas instalaciones donde extraen carbón de la tierra, pasamos cerca de allí, vimos que tenían algo de carbón afuera y un motor grande que ayudaba a halar los vagones llenos de carbón desde adentro de la mina hacia el exterior.

Very close to this oven, there is a facility where they extract coal from the earth, we passed near there, we saw that they had some coal outside and a big engine that helped to pull the wagons full of coal from inside the mine to the outside.

Una vez que atravesamos las instalaciones de extracción de carbón, comenzamos nuestro camino a través del lecho del cause de agua, para llegar hasta las piscinas naturales. Pueden observar que el día era maravilloso, soleado y con un cielo azul espectacular.

Once we passed through the coal extraction facilities, we started our way through the watercourse bed, to get to the natural pools. You can see that the day was wonderful, sunny and with a spectacular blue sky.

Cuando ya estábamos bastante cerca de llegar a nuestro destino encontramos una formación rocosa la cual asemeja una planicie inclinada de roca madre y que es atravesada por el agua que viene de arriba de las montañas, supongo que el agua a través de miles de años ha causado la erosión en la roca madre, formando una zanja por la cual esta fluye.

When we were quite close to reach our destination we found a rock formation which resembles a sloping plain of bedrock and is crossed by water coming from above the mountains, I guess the water over thousands of years has caused erosion in the bedrock, forming a ditch through which it flows.

En esta oportunidad quise realizar algunas fotografías interesantes y también hacerme una selfie.

In this opportunity I wanted to take some interesting pictures and also take a selfie.

Luego de caminar un buen rato a través del lecho del cause de agua, finalmente llegamos al pozo o piscina natural, estaba bastante llena, el color del agua en esta ocasión se debe a que en días anteriores llovió mucho en la cabecera de las montañas, lo cual provoca que se remuevan algunos sedimentos, lo que le da este color particular, pero de todas maneras nos lanzamos y disfrutamos un buen rato de su agradable temperatura.

After walking for a long time through the bed of the water, we finally reached the well or natural pool, it was quite full, the color of the water this time is because in previous days it rained a lot at the head of the mountains, which causes some sediments to be removed, which gives it this particular color, but anyway we jumped in and enjoyed a good time of its pleasant temperature.

En esta fotografía pueden observar como se ve cuando el agua está totalmente cristalina, se ve increíble, parece una piscina natural un Oasis en medio de ese paisaje árido. En esta fotografía en el fondo aparecemos todos encima de la roca madre y fue la primera vez que viajé a este sitio.

In this picture you can see how it looks when the water is totally crystalline, it looks amazing, it looks like a natural pool, an Oasis in the middle of this arid landscape. In this picture in the background we all appear on top of the bedrock and it was the first time I traveled to this site.

Cuando llegamos al sitio exploramos un poco y cada quien buscó un lugar en donde dejar sus pertenencias y cambiarse para lanzarse al agua. Yo le pedí el favor a unos compañeros del viaje que me tomaran una fotografía con la piscina natural de fondo.

When we arrived at the site we explored a bit and each one of us looked for a place to leave our belongings and change to jump into the water. I asked some fellow travelers to take a picture of me with the natural pool in the background.

Después de disfrutar un buen rato de la piscina natural, decidimos emprender camino hacia otras formaciones y otras caídas de agua que estaban cerca, como esta que pueden observar en la fotografía de arriba.

After enjoying the natural pool for a while, we decided to head towards other formations and waterfalls that were nearby, like the one you can see in the picture above.

Luego bajamos por el borde de la roca madre hasta llegar al pequeño pozo que se formaba en el fondo y allí sentado en una roca decidí que era buen momento para otra selfie.

Then we went down the edge of the bedrock until we reached the small pool that formed at the bottom and there sitting on a rock I decided it was a good time for another selfie.

En el camino desde la piscina natural hasta el siguiente pozo, encontré algunas plantas típicas del paisaje árido, llamada vegetación xerófila. Quise retratar las plantas ya que la luz me parecía la adecuada para hacerlo. Dentro de estas plantas podemos encontrar cactus, una pequeña flor amarilla y el fruto en flor de uno de los cactus, este fruto es llamado duna.

On the way from the natural pool to the next well, I found some plants typical of the arid landscape, called xerophytic vegetation. I wanted to take a picture of the plants since the light seemed to be adequate to do so. Within these plants we can find cactus, a small yellow flower and the blossoming fruit of one of the cactus, this fruit is called dune.

Y para terminar nuestro viaje, luego de haber disfrutado del paisaje que rodeaba las piscinas naturales los pozos y la vegetación xerófila, en el camino de regreso entramos a una de las minas de carbón aún activa. La excavación de la mina comenzó el 6 de mayo de 2004, su construcción duró 3 años y fue inaugurada el 22 de octubre de 2007.

Todos alumbrando con las linternas de nuestro celular, entramos por grupos y luego de unos metros encontramos un oratorio o pequeña especie de capilla, que los mineros construyeron en 2010, donde tienen un altar a la Virgen de Coromoto y a la cual le colocan ofrendas, como las flores que ven allí.

No avanzamos mucho en la mina, solo llegamos hasta el oratorio el cual se encuentra a unos 45 metros de la entrada, ya que nos daba algo de miedo avanzar más, estuvimos un rato allí, el guía nos compartió algunos datos interesantes de lámina y luego salimos para seguir nuestro recorrido hasta la unidad de transporte y poder regresar de nuevo a casa.

And to finish our trip, after having enjoyed the landscape surrounding the natural pools, the wells and the xerophytic vegetation, on the way back we entered one of the still active coal mines. The excavation of the mine began on May 6, 2004, its construction lasted 3 years and was inaugurated on October 22, 2007.
We entered in groups and after a few meters we found an oratory or small chapel of sorts, which the miners built in 2010, where they have an altar to the Virgin of Coromoto and to which they place offerings, such as the flowers you see there.
We did not advance much in the mine, we only got to the oratory which is about 45 meters from the entrance, as we were a little afraid to go further, we were there for a while, the guide shared with us some interesting facts and then we left to continue our journey to the transport unit and to return home.
