Hello to all of my new friends and family members in the Ladies of Hive community. It is a pleasure for me to be here today. Before I continue with this week's contest, I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Edna Rowland (@redna on Hive), and this is the introduction post that I created for myself. As a new member, I am overjoyed to have found the Ladies of Hive community because it is one that I can readily identify with and participate in. Thank you to everyone who worked behind the scenes to make the Ladies of Hive community a reality, and a special thanks goes out to @zestimony, who has been holding my hand and demonstrating how to get the most out of the Hive blockchain. Let's get right into the topic for the competition without further ado, shall we?

According to some interpretations of history, women have always been regarded as second-class citizens in comparison to men. In fact, within a typical African family and the majority of African societies, male children are regarded as more important than females. As a result, the joy and excitement that follows the birth of a male child is typically different than that which follows the birth of a female child.

Even in Western societies, which constantly preach gender equality, it is not unusual to find traces of higher priorities and preferences for males in comparison to females. This is especially true in the workplace. On the other hand, there is some encouraging news: the world is undergoing rapid change, and more and more people are beginning to recognize the power that women possess. But when exactly did it all begin?

Let's Travel Through Time Together

According to historical accounts, women have historically been given advantages in even the most traditionally male-dominated societies; however, in most instances, these are isolated incidents. You have probably heard of or read about instances in which female children are permitted to inherit family properties in the absence of a male child, as well as instances in which females are given traditionally masculine roles, such as prophets (prophetess), and so on. But this singular occurrence may have occurred a very long time ago, perhaps even before the 15th century, if historical evidence is to be believed. However, only in recent years has the issue of gender inequality been given the attention it deserves.

Some of My Observations

In spite of the fact that the vast majority of people believe that women and men should be treated equally in theory, the situation is quite different when it comes to actual application. However, the beginning of the 21st century (2001 onward) ushered in a new era of gender equality. This was especially true in indigenous societies, such as the majority of African societies. At this time, female education was highly being promoted and prioritized by families. Female genital mutilation is on its way out. Females are now handling significant offices of oversight.

What Has Caused these Changes?

Even though women are still stereotyped as being inferior to men in today's society and vice versa, the situation has significantly improved overall. At the very least, women are afforded the same level of opportunities, privileges, and services as their male counterparts, and with very few exceptions, women are able to perform the majority of the work that is traditionally reserved for men.

These shifts are being made possible as a result of a variety of factors, the first of which is the expansion of activist movements working toward gender equality. Civilization, which has a tendency to make traditional cultures obsolete and is therefore another important factor, is especially significant for the majority of African societies. The religious understanding of women is becoming clearer and less opinionated, which is another factor that is contributing to a slight weakening of religious positions regarding the role of girls and women in society.

Concluding Remarks

In general, attitudes toward women have shifted for the better, and women are no longer confined to the roles that were traditionally assigned to them. Despite the fact that men can't be women and women can't be men, I am of the firm belief that women should have the right and needed support to be the distinctive individuals they wish to be, and that both society and men shouldn't stand in their way.

Observaciones finales
