Greetings friends and members of the community. One of the most beautiful sites that nature has to offer in western Cuba is the well-known "Salto de Soroa". Also known as "Salto del Arcoiris" (because of the decomposition of light in the spectrum of the rainbow by the refraction of sunlight in the water of the waterfall), it is a waterfall of more than 20 meters high, located in the natural region of the Sierra del Rosario Mountains.

Soroa is famous for the wonders of its natural environment. From the geological point of view it is constituted by rocks of diverse types, among which very old Jurassic limestones stand out.

In the landscape, the pre-mountainous and mountainous elevations of the highlands stand out, with exuberant tropical vegetation and a very pleasant freshness.

Another of the treasures of the environment is the presence of mineral-medicinal waters that were once used for various therapeutic purposes.

To access the site of the waterfall is necessary to descend a steep staircase that has more than 200 steps. When you reach the bottom you can enjoy the waterfall in all its splendor, and take baths in the natural pools formed by the accumulation of its waters.

The best time of the year to visit it is in the rainy period from May to October, when the waterfall reaches its highest flow. At the time I visited it was not very rainy, and the waterfall looked like a thin stream of water falling. Even so, it was an excellent experience for the enjoyment of the surrounding environment.

Saludos amigos y miembros de la comunidad. Uno de los sitios más hermosos de que dispone la naturaleza del occidente cubano es el conocido "Salto de Soroa".

Conocido también como "Salto del Arcoiris" (a causa de la descomposición de la luz en el espectro del arcoiris por la refracción de la luz solar en el agua de la cascada), se trata de un salto de agua o cascada de más de 20 metros de altura, situado en la región natural de las Montañas de la Sierra del Rosario.

Soroa es célebre por las maravillas de su entorno natural. Desde el punto de vista geológico está constituido por rocas de diversos tipos, entre las que destacan calizas jurásicas muy antiguas.

En el paisaje destacan las elevaciones premontañosas y montañosas de la serranía, con una vegetación tropical exuberante y un frescor muy agradable. Otro de los tesoros del entorno es la presencia de aguas mineromedicinales que en otro tiempo fuesen utilizadas con diversos fines terapéuticos.

Para acceder al sitio del salto es necesario descender por una empinada escalera que posee más de 200 escalones. Al llegar al fondo se puede disfrutar de la cascada en todo su esplendor, y tomar baños en las piscinas naturales que forma la acumulación de sus aguas.

El mejor momento del año para visitarlo es en el período lluvioso de mayo a octubre, en donde alcanza mayor caudal dicho salto. En la época en que le visité era tiempo poco lluvioso, y el salto parecía un fino chorro de agua al caer. Aún así fue una excelente experiencia por el disfrute de todo su entorno circundante.
