Entre los más representativos del entorno paisajístico cubano se encuentran los paisajes cársicos del occidente de la mayor de las antillas. Éstos son aquellos desarrollados en terrenos de rocas carbonatadas como las calizas, formadas en antiquísimos ambientes marinos. Este tipo de rocas son susceptibles a procesos de disolución natural por las aguas de lluvia, lo que da lugar a un modelado en el tiempo del terreno que crea hermosas formas del relieve como mogotes o cerros de paredes escarpadas, cuevas, depresiones en el terreno, entre otras. Además, y debido al desarrollo de estos ambientes en climas tropicales, la vegetación es muy frondosa y exuberante.
El Parque "Escaleras de Jaruco", situado en el municipio homónimo de la provincia Mayabeque, es un típico ejemplo de los paisajes cársicos cubanos. Cuenta con un mosaico de bellas formas como las mencionadas anteriormente, y con magníficas vistas desde las cimas de sus cerros escarpados. Aquí les presento algunas fotografías que tomé recientemente en una de mis visitas al lugar, para que admiren la belleza del sitio.
Among the most representative of the Cuban landscape environment are the karst landscapes of western Cuba. These are those developed on carbonate rocks such as limestone, formed in ancient marine environments. These types of rocks are susceptible to natural dissolution processes by rainwater, which results in a modeling of the terrain over time that creates beautiful relief forms such as mogotes or steep-walled hills, caves, depressions in the terrain, among others. In addition, and due to the development of these environments in tropical climates, the vegetation is very lush and exuberant.
The "Escaleras de Jaruco" Park, located in the municipality of the same name in Mayabeque province, is a typical example of Cuban karst landscapes. It has a mosaic of beautiful shapes like those mentioned above, and magnificent views from the tops of its steep hills.
