Great point, so basically people believe what someone they trust says, and that's why it's so hard to make them change their mind, even if you show them proof. Because their belief is tied to an emotion and mainly to a person. So, if they accept that, using your same example, the earth is round they would be accepting that the person they trusted was wrong and that can be very difficult to face and accept for some.
