DIY - School spare time : Elephant Doodling
Sometimes, our school teacher remain on leave due to personal reason. It allow us some free time either to play games or to debate or to cover up our school work. Today, we had a free Hindi class, and to make adhoc arrangement for a day, our art teacher were given the reposnbulity to manage the class. And she given us all liberty to make some art work in the free time. Obviously she was not going to teach us Hindi.
With very limited resources with me, I ended up drawing this piece of elephant.
I usually do not carry all my Art material to school, unless and untill we were asked to bring. Still, I have my set of wax crayons color in my bag. Unable to decide what to draw in my free time. I drew up this after looking it at my Teacher saree. She wore this fine imprint of elephant on her Black saree and really inspired me to draw it. I casually made use of :
- HB Pencil
- Black ball point pen
- Wax crayons (to shade the background)
An elephant is a symbol of royalness in ancient times. There were many stories associated with these elephant and also with Kings who loved to take a ride on them. So these big animals were always kept decorated, with jewellery, paintings and ang wastra (piece of cloth on top of the body.)
After sketching out the elephant body using the HB pencil, I began the doodling work using my ball point pen. I started with the cloth piece on top of body and the ear portion. If you look at any of the historical elephant image, you will find similar kind of paintings on them. I followed that to fill entire portion.
A naked body of elephant does not looked so attractive, then a covered elephant with paintings and different piece of colorful cloths. All the design of my painting were done using my hand. I made sure to focus consistently on it so that not to make a mess of it.
After designing, the upper body parts, the legs were looking empty. So I drew few lines right at the foot portion to make it look more lively and real. Basically, I covered entire body portion with my doodling work.
As It was done in my school, I could not manage to take the drawing picture (mobiles phone not allowed) But hope you like and appreciate my step up process and effort in drawing this.
Art is innate
