My Garden Journal , Rainy Season Is Here

Today still appears gloomy after the heavy rains brought about by the SEVERE TROPICAL STORM TALIM (formerly "DODONG"). The dreary weather has affected my photos, making them look dull. Nonetheless, I decided to brighten my day by tending to the front area of my house. I weeded out and trimmed some overgrown bushes, hoping to shake off the gloomy mood.

As we enter the rainy season in the Philippines, I find joy in seeing lots of greenery around me. Take, for example, this pot of garlic I planted few weeks ago, which turned out to be an unexpected success. After experimenting with a few cloves and encouraging root growth by soaking them in water, they now flourish in the soil.

Another achievement for me is growing these bokchoys from seed packets purchased at the local mall. This marks my second successful batch, and soon enough, they'll be ready for harvest.

However, my greatest challenge lies with these slender, long green peppers, essential for making the sour soup called sinigang. Despite my best efforts in providing the right potting mix and ample sunlight, they have grown but failed to bear fruit. I'm left wondering what else they might need.

Similarly grown from seed packets, these eggplants have presented mixed results. While some are curling up for unknown reasons, others seem to thrive without any issues. All were grown using the same potting mix and placed in the same spot with sufficient sunlight. I'm perplexed and welcome any tips or advice.

This oregano was purchased from a local peddler who frequents the neighborhood, selling various garden-related items. Despite facing adversity and being partially consumed by slugs, it has managed to survive and regrow. I'm relieved to see it flourish once again.

Furthermore, I've taken on the challenge of growing melons from seeds, inspired by an online video showcasing how seemingly easy it can be. While the reference video used rice sacks as containers, I opted for plastic pails and wooden poles wound with wires. Let's see if this endeavor proves successful.
