I Made Delicious Turon for Afternoon Snack

Today, I decided to treat myself to a delightful Filipino snack, turon, for my afternoon indulgence. Turon has always been a favorite of mine, with its crispy exterior and sweet, gooey filling. I couldn't resist the temptation to make it at home, so I gathered the necessary ingredients and embarked on my culinary adventure.

Ingredients:

Ripe bananas
Lumpia wrappers (spring roll wrappers)
Brown sugar
Cooking oil for frying

First, I carefully peeled the ripe bananas, making sure not to bruise them. Ripe bananas work best for turon as they provide a naturally sweet flavor and a soft texture when cooked.

Next, I laid out the lumpia wrappers on a clean surface. I gently placed one banana diagonally on the edge of each wrapper, leaving enough space to fold the sides.

To add a touch of sweetness, I sprinkled a generous amount of brown sugar over each banana. The brown sugar would caramelize during frying, creating a delicious syrupy coating.

Now, it was time to roll. I folded the sides of the wrapper over the banana, then rolled it tightly, making sure the filling was completely enclosed. A little water on the edges helped seal the turon.

Once all the turon were assembled, I heated a sufficient amount of cooking oil in a deep pan over medium heat. It's important to ensure that the oil is hot enough to fry the turon but not too hot to burn them.

Carefully placing the turon in the hot oil, I fried them until they turned golden brown and crispy. It usually took about 2-3 minutes per side. I used tongs to gently flip them over to ensure even cooking.

Once the turon reached the desired color and crispness, I transferred them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Finally, it was time to savor the fruits of my labor. I eagerly took a bite into the warm, crunchy turon, and instantly, the caramelized sugar coated my taste buds with sweetness. The soft banana filling provided a delightful contrast to the crispy shell. It was pure bliss.

As I enjoyed my homemade turon, I couldn't help but appreciate the simplicity of this Filipino snack and the joy it brings. It reminded me of the vibrant street food stalls in the Philippines and the warm smiles of the people enjoying these treats.

I'm incredibly satisfied with how my turon turned out, and I can't wait to share this recipe with my friends and family. This culinary adventure has certainly made my afternoon snack a memorable one.

Until next time,
