Hivegarden journal: My Siling Haba Journey from Doubt to Delight

Hello hivegarden enthusiasts and friends,

In June, I implemented a unique approach to cultivate my "siling haba" chili plants. I repurposed a plastic pail, strategically placing a wooden pole in its center. To ensure stability, I anchored the pail with stones at its base. The innovative touch came with affixing PET bottles onto the wooden pole, creating an effective and resourceful growing system.

I crafted a tailored growing medium by blending garden soil with rice husk, supplemented by a touch of perlite. This unique mixture, composed of online-acquired ingredients, served as the optimal foundation for nurturing my chili plants.

The culmination of my efforts resulted in a setup featuring four PET bottles – two positioned atop and two in the middle – all securely affixed to the central wooden pole. Within each of these PET bottles, seedlings were carefully planted, signifying the potential for a thriving chili garden. To maximize the available space, I ingeniously utilized the area around the base where the wooden pole connected to the plastic pail, ingeniously filling it with even more seedlings.

As of today, which is August 29th, the chili plants that I started back in June would have been growing for approximately 91 days. It's wonderful to see that my "siling haba" chili plants have borne fruit and are now ready for harvest, perfect for enhancing my sinigang dish with that mild spicy flavor.

The slim and graceful appearance of the "siling haba" chili is stunning. Its bright green color, resembling that of a fresh green apple, adds to its visual charm, making it a delightful presence in both gardens and cooking.

Initially, I had doubts because the seedlings didn't show much progress over the past few weeks. However, looking at them now, it's amazing to see how they've transformed.
