Shrimp and calamari in vinaigrette sauce // Camarones y calamares a la vinagreta
For several days now I have been craving for Ceviche, Seafood Salpicon, stuffed shrimps.... I didn't want to eat red meat or chicken for a long time. By chance, I was going to the supermarket to buy vegetables to sauté them and vary the menu a little. But when I got to the supermarket, I found out that they had opened a fish market across the street and I decided to go in and look around.
There was a great variety of fish and seafood and the prices were not so expensive so I decided to buy 200 grams of shrimp and 200 grams of squid, because it was the first time I would prepare this dish and if it didn't turn out well, I wouldn't feel so bad because I didn't spend much. And that amount is enough for my son and me, for a different and light dinner.
Desde hace varios días he estado antojada por comer Ceviche, Salpicón de Mariscos, Camarones Rebosados... No quería saber de carnes rojas ni de pollo por un buen tiempo. Casualmente iba al super a comprar vegetales para hacerlos salteados y así variar un poco el menú. Pero cuando llegué al super, me entero que al frente habían inaugurado una pescadería y decidí entrar a curiosear.
Había gran variedad de pescados y mariscos y los precios no estaban tan caros así que decidí comprar 200 gramos de camarones y 200 gramos de calamares, porque es la primera vez que prepararía este platillo y si me no salía bien, no me sentiría tan mal porque no gasté mucho. Y esa cantidad es suficiente para mi hijo y para mi, para una cena distinta y ligera.
I bought the shrimp and squid at this fishmonger's, cleaned and shelled. When I got here, I called my sister, who has cooked shrimp, to tell me how to cook them. So I will share this easy recipe for you to taste.
En esta pescadería compré los camarones y los calamares limpios y sin cáscara. Al llegar aquí, llamé a mi hermana quien sí ha cocinado camarones, para que me dijera cómo los debía cocinar. Así que les compartiré esta fácil receta para que la prueben.

✔️200 grams of fresh shrimp
✔️200 grams of squid
✔️1/2 red bell pepper
✔️1/2 hot bell pepper
✔️1/2 onion
✔️3 sprigs of cilantro
✔️Salt to taste

✔️200 gramos de calamares
✔️1/2 pimentón rojo
✔️1/2 ají picante
✔️1/2 cebolla
✔️3 ramitas de cilantro
✔️Sal al gusto
The first thing I did was to get a pot with enough water to cover the shrimp and waited for the water to boil. When it boiled, I added the shrimp and they were completely covered by the water. I waited two minutes for them to cook. Then I removed the pot from the heat but left the shrimp in the hot water for about 7 minutes. When they started to turn pink, I poked them with a fork and they went all the way in. They were ready. I removed them from the water and drained them in a colander to remove the excess water.
I did the same procedure with the squid.
Lo primero que hice fue coger una olla con suficiente agua que cubriese los camarones y esperé a que el agua hirviese. Al hervir, añadí los camarones y que estuviesen completamente cubiertos por el agua. Esperé dos minutos que se cocieran. Luego retiré la olla del fuego pero dejé los camarones en esa agua caliente por 7 minutos aproximadamente. Cuando se comenzaron a poner rosados, los pinché con un tenedor y entró por completo. Ya estaban listos. Los retiré del agua y los escurrí en un colador para quitarles el exceso de agua.
El mismo procedimiento lo realicé con los calamares.
Now I would chop each of the ingredients that I would add to the seafood. I have seen many times that some people cut them in julienne strips, but I prefer to cut them in small squares.I removed the stems from the cilantro.
Ahora picaría cada uno de los ingredientes que le agregaría a los mariscos. He visto muchas veces que hay quienes los cortan en juliana, pero yo preferí cortarlos en cuadritos chiquititos. Al cilantro le quité los tallos.
After chopping all the ingredients, I added the shrimp and squid. I added salt to taste and vinegar. Voilà, that's it! All I had to do was to plate it.
As I am not an expert at this either, what I did was to try different ways of plating.I finally decided on the shrimp cup for my cover, as suggested by my son.
Posteriormente, al haber picado todos los ingredientes, incorporé los camarones y los calamares. Coloqué sal al gusto y vinagre. Voilà, es todo! Ya solo me faltaba emplatar.
Como no soy experta en esto tampoco, lo que hice fue probar distintas maneras de emplatado. Finalmente me decidí por la copa de camarones para mi portada, como me sugirió mi hijo.
I thought it was complicated to make this type of recipe, but I was wrong. I will try to incorporate it into our menu to at least eat this kind of dishes every 15 days. It would be delicious and very healthy.
