The Object

Greetings, loyal followers! Today something very strange happened to me just a few hours ago! It is still very fresh in the minds of me and my younger uncle.

This is the third day of my stay in México. I am enjoying it so far and am glad to have returned. I mostly spend time helping my dad out on our projects or with his first cousin, Saul, making him my 'uncle' to put it simply. Saul is two years younger than me! The timeline is different over here maybe haha.

Today, Saul took me to his parcel of land in an area called "La Cienega" just south our village, La Angostura. He showed me his young crop of cartamo, the plant used to manufact canola oil.

While we this far out, Saul asked me if I wanted to visit an old abandoned building left from Mexican revolutionary times.

The building belonged to one General Marquez. He supposedly would kidnap and torture people here, and apparently there still used to be hooks on the walls where the victims would be strung up.

We were only there a few minutes. There were some very strange vibes inside the decrepit rooms. I felt like I was being watched. Saul also had this feeling that we shouldn't be there. So we decided to head off. On our way out of the house, just before the threshold, I glimpsed something shiny on the ground!

At first, I thought it was just a balled up foil gum wrapper. Upon picking up the object, I realized it was solid, but very light. I have some experience melting metals and casting as a hobby. To me, this small, round, shiny object seemed to be a little drop of pure aluminum! It was shiny, but not polished. Saul held it and lightly squeezed it and also thought it was interesting, like nothing he had ever seen before and was curious at the fact that he did not spot it first (he was in front of me). I slipped it into my pocket and we continued out of the ruins.

Just out of the building, I decided to take the object out of my pocket again to marvel at it as we walked back to the pickup truck. Then I got an idea. What if I test its hardness? I tried pressing my nail into the thing and then sparks flew out of it! It lit up and made a loud noise like a sparkler firework. I screamed, "Ahh!" which caused Saul, still in front of me, to turn around. He managed to glimpse the sparks and said that it illuminated my entire chest! The object damn-near melted my nail off!

I dropped the object, now blackened, and still smoldering. Saul went to pick it up but I told him, "Don't touch it!" If you zoom in on my burns, you can see white flecks. It is residue from the object. In person, they are silvery.

Not wanting to linger any longer, we abandoned the object and continued towards the truck. Then I heard a noise amidst the dry grasses.

Saul said, "Did you see that?"

"No. What was it?" I replied.

"It was a stone."

Apparently, something threw a rock at us. I kid you not, there was no one for miles around. We were in the middle of nowhere off the dirt road that branches off the main road coming from the town of La Luz. Not only that, but the stone came from the direction of the abandoned building! We passed through all the rooms; there was not a (living) soul to be found. I'm getting goosebumps just from thinking about it again! When we finally left, Saul commented that one side of his head was throbbing. He might have been psychically attacked, I don't know. He is very sensitive to the paranormal and is often plagued with prophetic dreams, among other anomalies.

So Many Questions

What was the object? After the incident I presumed magnesium. But magnesium needs an initial spark to ignite, doesn't it? Then I thought maybe it was only coated in aluminum or something and the core might have been an alkali metal. Alkali metals are the first column of elements in the periodic table, a family of metals that share similar properties including but not limited to lithium, potassium, and sodium. These elements oxidize immediately in the atmosphere but most notably react violently when they come into contact with water.
We're going to return tomorrow to, hopefully, find more specimens and, this time, treat them with more caution. We're going with another local, a man who claims to know white magic and black, among other occult practices. When saw him once we got back to town and told him everything. He guessed that maybe the object could have reacted to sunlight. Now that you mention it, it did burst into flame the moment we stepped out into the light. He said he was going to consult "the pendulum" on this matter.

I have no pictures of the object. It all happened so fast. Tomorrow we will return and look for the remnants of the object.

Magnesium Chloride ice melting pallets cause burns.

Ah, thank you! This is a very good guess. After doing a quick image search, however, my sample does not match. I'm still partially convinced it contains magnesium though!

It sounds very strange and scary, honestly :(
How is your finger now?

My nail looks a lot better but feels bruised. I don't think it will fall off anymore. It looked worse because it was mostly just residue from the object. My other finger has developed a white bubble but does not hurt. Sorry, sounds nasty! Haha
Thank you for asking! We are supposed to return with a man that can see the dead. The only probably is there is so much to do here and I feel like there are not enough hours in the day! There is also the tomb of a witch doctor we have to explore!

Do you think you need to see doctors?
Listening to this makes me feel like I am in a horror movie. ^^ Like you're on the mysterious expedition, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about what you guys discover soon :)

Fortunately, I don't have to see a doctor. They are just minor burns. I am excited to explore some more, too! I will try to be more careful next time with what I find (and maybe bring some tweezers/tongs)! Hopefully this weekend we can go on another expedition and I can share the artifacts we find.
