In the Bulgarian Symbols series, I want to introduce the world and Hive users to my country, its beauty and secrets, some of its history and majesty.

Bulgaria is a unique country. It is small compared to many countries in the world, but it has gathered many beautiful places in itself, unique "bacteria" (Bulgarian yogurt), many representatives of the animal or plant world that like our latitudes and prefer only to thrive here.

I would like to tell you about a unique plant, well not unique grows in many places, but the quality of plants grown in Bulgaria is renowned internationally.

Today I will tell you about the Bulgarian Rose (butter rose)

There are 4 species cultivated in the world as oilseeds:
Rosa damascena (damascena rose)
Rosa centifolia (capital rose)
Rosa gallica (stambola rose)
Rosa alba (white butter rose)

In our latitudes you can most often find fields with Rosa damascena, it is often called Kazanlak rose because the largest fields with planted plantations are located around Karlovo and Kazanlak. It also has the highest percentage of oil, that is, the number of essential oils from it is the greatest, so it is about 90% and perhaps more of the plantations in Bulgaria is with such a rose. It has a pale pink color and a very strong aroma. The pickers say that after a day of picking the flowers, even a few days later the scent of the rose oil absorbed into their body remains. Even after they have bathed several times.

This fragrant rose blooms in May, and after blooming, there are about 40 days in which to harvest the flowers. To preserve the qualities of the essential oil rose water, and other beneficial ingredients after distillation the whole process has to be done very quickly.

What is the rose

Traditionally, the inflorescence contains 4 to 5 flowers tinged pink, with an average of 28 petals and a flower weight of 2.3 grams.
The fruits of the oil rose are called false rose hips. They are covered on the outside with resinous glands. They contain from 1 to 3 seeds called nutlets.

What is produced when the flowers are processed

The Kazanlak rose is grown for its flowers, which contain essential oils and from which the world-famous Bulgarian rose oil is produced. Well-known perfumes featuring Bulgarian rose are Just Pink (by Cavalli), 5th Avenue (by Elizabeth Arden), City Glam (by Emporio Armani), Omnia Amethyste (by Bvlgari), Noa Fleur (by Cacharel), Chic (by Carolina Herrera), Allure Sensuelle (by Chanel), etc. In some years, the price of Bulgarian rose oil approaches the price of gold, hence its name "liquid gold".
The by-product of the steam distillation process of extracting the oil is rosewater, which finds use in the perfume and food industries. Other products of the rose flower include rose absolute and rose concretion.

These rose fields have found their ideal soil and geographic location in the valley around Karlovo and Kazanlak. Many sources say that attempts have been made to plant this plant in many places around Bulgaria, but the best results have come from there.

The rose grows on a bush and its roots reach 4-5 meters in length.

Rose plantations also perform anti-erosion functions in the area where they are grown.

In the past, many wealthy Bulgarians who traveled around Europe carried muscals (small bottles of rose oil) with them and often sold them to continue their travels.

As they traveled to various fairs and other goods shows, they carried a few muscals in their pockets with which they could purchase all the goods they needed.

A muscal is a unit of measurement for a quantity approximately equal to 5 grams.

There are reports that one of the most famous Bulgarian writers Aleko Konstantinov met a Bulgarian in America, and so he created the eponymous image of "Bai Ganyo" after seeing how he dutifully wore muscals in his belt.

A belt is called, a long and wide piece of cloth (sometimes about 3-4 meters long and about half a meter wide) wrapped around the waist.

With the Bulgarian Symbols series, I want to remind Bulgarians what a unique people we are, as well as show people who are not Bulgarian about our world, and why not inspire them to visit Bulgaria someday!

България е една уникална страна. Малка е в сравнение с много от държавите в света, но е събрала много красиви места в себе си, уникални "бактерии" (Българското кисело мляко), много представители от животинския или растителсният свят, които харесват нашите географски ширини и предпочитат само тук да виреят.

Искам да ви разкажа за едно уникално растение, добре не е уникално вирее на много места, но качеството на отглежданите растения в България се слави на интернационално ниво.

Днес ще Ви разкажа за Българската роза (маслодайна роза)

Като маслодайни в света се отглеждат 4 вида:
Rosa damascena (роза дамасцена)
Rosa centifolia (столистна роза)
Rosa gallica (стамболска роза)
Rosa alba (бяла маслодайна роза)

По нашите ширини най-често можете да срещнете полета с Rosa damascena, често тя е и наричана Казанлъшка роза защото най-големите полетата със засадени насаждения се намират около Карлово и Казанлък. Тя е и с най-голям процент масленост, тоест количеството на етерични масла от нея е най-голямо, затова е около 90% а може би и повече от насажденита в България са с такава роза. Тя има бледо розов цвят и много силен аромат. Берачките споделят, че след като един ден са събирали цветовете, дори и няколко дни след това аромата розовото масло попило в тялото им остава. Дори и след като няколко пъти са се къпали.

Тази уханна роза цъфти май месец, като след цъфне има около 40 дни период в който се прибира реколкотата. За да се запазят качествата на етеричното масло, розовата вода и останалите полезни съставки след дестилация целият процес трябва да се извършва много бързо.

Какво представлява розата

Традиционно, съцветието съдържа от 4 до 5 цвята, оцветени в розово, със средно 28 венчелистчета и тегло на цвета от 2,3 грама.
Плодовете на маслодайната роза се наричат лъжливи шипки. Отвън са покрити със смолести жлези. Съдържат от 1 до 3 семки, наречени орехчета.

Какво се получава при преработката на цветовете

Казанлъшката роза се отглежда заради цветовете, които съдържат етерични масла и от които се произвежда известното по цял свят българско розово масло. Известни парфюми в чийто състав участва българска роза са Just Pink (от Cavalli), 5-th Avenue (от Elizabeth Arden), City Glam (от Emporio Armani), Omnia Amethyste (от Bvlgari), Noa Fleur (от Cacharel), Chic (от Carolina Herrera), Allure Sensuelle (от Chanel) и др. В някои години цената на българското розово масло се доближава до цената на златото, откъдето идва и наименованието му „течно злато“.
Вторичен продукт от процеса на парна дестилация по извличането на масло е розовата вода, която намира употреба в парфюмерийната и хранителната промишленост. Измежду останалите продукти на розовия цвят са розовото абсолю и розовия конкрет.

Тези розови полета са намерили своята идеална почва и георгарфска локация в котловината около Карлово и Казанлък. Много източници споделят че на много места из България са се правили опити да се засади това растение, но най-добрите резултати са дали именно там.

Розата расте на храст корените и достигат 4-5 метра дължина.

Насажденията с рози изпълняват и противоерозионни функции в района, в който се отглеждат.

В миналото, много заможни Българи които са обикаляли Европа са носели със себе си мускали (малки шишенца с розово масло) и често са го продавали за да могат да продължат своето пътуване.

Обикаляйки по различни панаири и други изложения за стоки, те в своя джоб са носели няколко мускала с които са могли да закупят цялата стока която им е била нужна.

Мускала е мерна единица за количество приблизително равна на 5 грама.

Има сведения, че един от най-знаменитите български писатели Алеко Константинов среща българин в Америка, и така той създава едноименният образ "Бай Ганьо" след като вижда как той прилежно е носел мускали в пояса си.

Пояс се нарича, дълго и широко платно плат (понякога дълго около 3-4 метра и широко около половин метър), увит около кръста.

С поредицата Българските символи, искам да припомня на българите колко уникален народ сме, както и да покажа на хората които не са българи за нашия свят, а защо и да не ги вдъхновя някой ден да посетят България!
