ANTICIPATING MY FIRST HIVE COMMUNITY HANGOUT...
Okay, so this will be my first Hive-related post in a while.
And I’m really excited to be writing about this because in a few days I will get to meet with brilliant folks from this awesome community.
All thanks to @startstrings01 who has been actively involved in building a Hive community here in Nigeria. The Hive community is made up of mostly students from my school i.e Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB). He has been able to make the right noises about Hive to a lot of people around and they have also caught the flow.
Although I haven’t been to any of their meetings (I think they’ve had two before this), I have seen how they’ve been so organized even while looking from afar. They all have an eagerness to learn and contribute meaningfully to the Hive community as a whole.
So for the first time on Saturday 18th, I will officially be joining the HIVE FUNAAB community for their first-ever hangout which will be happening at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library resort center (OOPL). Let me digress and tell you a bit about OOPL.
OOPL stands for the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library resort center. If you know a bit about Nigerian history you must have heard the name of the person this library was named after.
Olusegun Obasanjo was the first elected democratic president of Nigeria. He was elected president in 1999 and was president of Nigeria for about 8 years. He is a native of Abeokuta and presently lives in the city. While leading a public campaign against corruption and implementing economic reforms in his country, he has been widely seen abroad as an African statesman championing debt relief and democratic institutions.
The President's Library complex is 32 hectares. The complex also includes an outdoor amphitheater, a 1000-seat auditorium, a 153-room hotel, several restaurants and bars, a small amusement park, a natural park, and an observation point.
The Presidential Library Complex is strategically located at the intersection of two main roads leading to Abeokuta City from two different directions, namely Presidential Boulevard and MKO Abiola Way. The first leads to Lagos, the commercial center of Nigeria, and the second to Ibadan, the former largest city in Nigeria and West Africa. The 32-acre resort is close to the Federal Superior Court, City stadium, Federal and State government offices, a golf course, and several high-end developments.
Green Legacy Resort
The shape and landscape of the rock formations of OOPL are impressive and interesting. The plain-shaped formation serves as a natural helipad. Others form hills that create excellent views of the entire resort and the main areas of the surrounding cityscape. A rapid stream flows into a small swamp and has been dyked to generate water and electricity. The dam is one of the highlights of a visit to the library complex.
The department library contains more than 42 million books, documents, and archives of the former president. It houses a museum that shows the life and times of President Obasanjo from his birth. There is also an auditorium, an amphitheater, and the Centro Adire y Telas Africanas. In addition, the locals have a “Human Leadership and Security Center” and other advocacy centers. Nearby are the zoos and the Green Legacy Resort, which welcomes visitors attending seminars, workshops, and conferences.
At the hangout, we plan to watch a movie. @starstrings01 hinted at "THE BLOCKBUSTERS". We would also go sightseeing and probably go to the wildlife park.
It promises to be a spectacular event.
