Holi Special - Peas Pulao
Hello everyone,
Today I am going to share a recipe for the Matter Pulao. (Peas Pulao).
I prepare it for the occasion of Holi a few days ago. When it comes to veg food, it is there on top of my list. It is very simple to make and it tastes great. In my opinion, the cooking process doesn't require a lot of skills. But it does requires a lot of veggie cutting.
Let's start.
Below are the ingredients for the recipe.
Onions
Potatoes.
Carrots
Peas
Garlic
Chilly
Lemon
Ghee or Oil
Garam Masala (Whole)
Coriander leaves
Cashews (Optional)
White Rice (Basmati Preferred)
Salt.
Step 1: Wash the rice and soak it in water for at least 30mins.
Step 2: While the rice is getting soaked. Slice the onions, Dice the potatoes, Cut the Carrots into small pieces, and finely chop the garlic. It is important to keep the veggies ready to go in the pot or rice cooker. I prefer the rice cooker as it works on both LPG and electricity. It is to save the LPG.
Step 3: Add 3tablespoon of ghee to the cooker. Once melted add the whole spices. You don't have to wait for the ghee to get super hot. Wait till the masala is released the fragrance.
Step 4: Add onions and saute it for 3-4mins. Till it is slightly colored. Then add garlic. And cook till the raw smell goes away.
Step 5: Add potatoes and carrots. (Hard veggies which usually take longer to cook) cook for 5 mins. Keep stirring in between.
Step 6: Once the potatoes are cooked a little, Add the peas. You don't have to cook for long as peas get cooked quickly.
Step 7: Add water. I usually add 2 cups of water to 1 cup of rice.
Step 8: Very important (Add salt). And taste it. Please make sure that the salt is added a little extra as a lot of veggies are added and the potato soaks salt. Add coriander leaves and a little lemon juice.
Step 9: Drain and add the rice to the mix. Cover with a lid and leave it for cooking.
Step 10: The Rice will take 10-15mins depending on the quality of the rice. Switch off the flames or cooker once the cooking is done, But leave the lid covered and rice undisturbed for another 10mins.
Peas pulao is ready.
Serve it with your choice of side dish and raita.
I prepared chilly paneer. Another one of veg fav dishes. Will be sharing the recipe next time.
