My 2$ Lunch - A Hotdog and A cup of Cappuccino - Zoo Cafe
I am slowly recovering from my depression, a week ago I was in very bad shape, confused, and had no idea what to do. But I decided to stay calm, quiet and involved myself in many activities. I think so far this is one of the best decisions I have taken for myself. Trust me when I am in deep depression, I don't feel like talking or involving with people though I know it helps a lot when you share. But I am the opposite and there is nothing much I can do except work on my mental health. The good thing is slowly I am recovering and feeling good.
A few days ago while visiting the Kharkiv Zoo, I have found a very small cafe inside the territory. Let me explain the zoo location first, the zoo is located near Shevchenko Park, or I can say the zoo is located inside the park. The zoo has many entrances so one can enter directly or can enter through the park. The best way to go to the zoo is to enter through the park, you will be able to see many things all at once.
There are 2-3 restaurants and cafes near the park, I saw them before but I have no idea there will be coffee shops and cafes inside the zoo. Outside foods are not allowed so if you want to eat anything definitely you have to buy your food from those cafes which are inside the zoo.
We are having winter here so generally, the weather stays very cold and gloomy. For example, in summer I can't stay outside without drinking water and cold drinks, and in winter, coffee is a must for me. I drink coffee a lot, trust me I wanted to change my coffee habit and wanted to replace it with hot chocolate but I guess I am a caffeine addict.
Anyway, Kharkiv zoo is very large and it takes a lot of time to see the animals and their habitats. Most of the animals were kept inside the glass box cage because of winter but still, it takes time to see the animals. If you have ever been to a zoo or a safari park, you know what I meant.
Most of the cafes were closed because in winter not many people go to the zoo. I didn't find any other reason for the closed cafe except this. So while walking in the zoo, I have found a very small cafe at one corner of the zoo. It's a small cafe called "Zoo Cafe" that sells coffee, beverages, and hot dogs. I remember when I came to Kharkiv, there were a lot of hotdog shops because later Shawarma business had taken the place so I was surprised to see the hotdog shop here.
The cafe was pretty nice, clean but very small, only 3-4 people can enter the shop at a time. They have an outdoor sitting area but in winter nobody prefers to sit there so people just come, take coffee and then leave with the cup.
I have a very bad habit and that is when I enter any shop, I look around first and then start checking the menu. So I did the same here.
I have ordered a cappuccino and a chicken hotdog. They had shawarma too but I preferred the hotdog. I would say they had nothing much to serve especially bakery products. The shop was almost empty. I think this happened because not many come to see the zoo regularly so they didn't have varieties of cookies or cakes to serve.
The bakery display section was almost empty and I had a doubt whether those macaroons were fresh or not. I had ordered a medium cup cappuccino so it didn't cost much. Hotdog cost around 1.5$ which I think was cheap as well. So I had my lunch within 2$ lol...
The coffee was served first, I had to wait for my Hotdog so again I decided to look around and take some photos...
The coffee was smooth and delicious though I had chosen normal milk. The view from the coffee shop was nice too, anyone can see a part of the zoo from the glass facade. I was enjoying the outside view while taking a sip of the cappuccino.
There was no art on the coffee, very simple randomly delivered but I honestly didn't mind having a normal cup of cappuccino.
After some time, the hotdog was served and it looked very tasty. The hotdog was freshly made and the fragrance was mouthwatering. It was served with soft bread and chicken sausage with mustard, and tomato ketchup. Some fried onions were sprinkled over the hotdog.
The sausage was delicious and I must say the crispiness of the fried onion elevated the taste of the hotdog. I don't know how popular hotdog is nowadays but here people prefer shwarma more than a hotdog. So, this was the first time I was tasting a hotdog in Ukraine and I would say it was really delicious considering the price point.
I know it's not a very healthy lunch but as I was hungry, it was a pretty good lunch and also the price was cheap too. Only 2$ and if I had gone to the restaurant which was in the park, I had to spend a minimum of 15$ for lunch...
What do you think? Did 2$ was worthy of for this lunch?
That's all for today, folks...
Until next time... Have a nice day everyone...

Two dollars is a very good price, in Scotland at a zoo that would easily be ten dollars.
I am curious is Shevchenko Park named after Andriy Shevchenko the footballer and you are in Ukraine?
I do hope the trip to the zoo to see the animals helped with your depression, and the hotdog looked delicious. Congratulations on eating your first one!
It's Taraz Shevchenko park, in Ukraine, Kharkiv city. Yes, you are right, normally the price in cafes within the zoo is very expensive than outside but it was the opposite here. I think it was cheap because of the season, I am sure they will increase the price in summer.
Exploring the zoo really helped a lot, to reduce my depression level...
Thank you for that. It was a very good price, even if off season here, they would still charge the high price.
I am so glad the exploration of the zoo helped. I think animals can help with our health, they are calming and make us feel better.
Oh ya for sure, I have seen such scenarios in many locations, especially in tourists spots.
Yes, they help and I was able to divert myself from negative thoughts, I was seeking and searching for positivity everywhere because somehow I felt that everything around me was falling apart. So, spending few hours with animals did help me a lot
I have a local park which is close to me. Whenever I feel low, I go and talk to the animals, squirrels and birds and write stories about them. It really works as they live in the now, and have no negativity towards you.
Exactly and it feels so relaxing and soothing, the body gets new energy...
Yes it does 😁
Hello @priyanarc, I like what you've done with your photos:)
...and I'm happy to hear that you've found something to lift your spirits. ☕️🌭
The prices at the café sound reasonable, compared to what we pay in the UK.
Hotdogs! My weakness! I absolutely love hotdogs, especially with onions and all the condiments imaginable.
I hope you'll start to feel better within yourself as soon as the days start getting lighter.
All good wishes 💐
Thank you so much, I have seen many posts about coffee and I was thinking to write a post for a very long time. yes, unfortunately, it took a very long time to write something here in this community.
Right now, I am fully focused on my mental health and trying to stay strong...
I really like this hotdog and will try again when I will be visiting there. Thank you for much for your wish and support...
You're very welcome. Feel free to drop by anytime:)
Definitely, I will...Because I love coffee :D
☕️ Cheers to a great day!
Glad to hear you are recovering slowly and wish you a full recovery @priyanarc.
I guess the winter season does not help at all, but it's almost over and spring is just around the corner.
Thank you and yes, I am eagerly waiting for the beautiful spring...But surely this winter will be missed...
Glad you found an outlet and recover slowly. You make me miss drinking coffee from a paper cup!
Oh ya, there is something fun drinking coffee from a paper cup, I don't prefer plastic cups. But ya I love drinking coffee from a nice coffee cup for sure...
I am happy too and hope this kind of outing will help me to recover...
Sometimes a 2 dollar lunch is just perfect. I never had fried onions on a dog before. Sounds interesting actually. Standard here is just fresh onion. Of course I like chili on it too which we call a Coney dog, yum!
Ya I sometimes love good food at a cheap price, who doesn't love such food right!!! You should try fried onions with a hotdog, it gives extra flavor. I also expected fresh onions but this was so different...Love it...
