It seems like Holiday Season is not over yet - Wednesday Walk | Kharkiv, Ukraine
After the celebration of New year's eve and Christmas, people are getting ready for work whereas Ukraine is still celebrating the holiday season. In Ukraine, people celebrate Xmas on 7th January after the new year mostly, according to Orthodox Christmas day. So, we get a nice holiday time after the new year. I am basically spending my free time most of the days except doing some personal project work.
It's hard to explain what I do in my free time because it's not actually free time. I don't go out too often like I used to do in summer or autumn besides the holiday season is still with us so I don't have work pressure now. If I like the weather, then I go out to enjoy the winter but often return home quickly. Yesterday the weather was warmer than usual so we decided to go to the city center and to visit Gorky Park. Gorky Park is one of the biggest parks in Kharkiv and one of the most convenient, beautiful parks within the city. I remember when I first arrived in Kharkiv, people offered me to visit Gorky Park, back then it was one and only a beautiful and organized park. But now there are many other parks here after huge restoration and renovation.
I don't often visit this park, it's far away from my home. But it is a beautiful park with a lot of activity zone. One can easily spend 4-5 hours there just by walking around. During summer, they open their mirror house, car zone, and fantasy land, sometimes concert happens there even a big Halloween party is arranged here every year. If you ask people about Kharkiv and what place to see, they will definitely mention Gorky park in the list.
This is the french carousel, can you remember anything? Must be something related to your childhood memories? I remember when I was a kid, my mom used to take me to the carousel, I used to love it a lot... Whenever I go to Gorky Park, I spend time staring at the carousel.
This is the main entrance of the park, beautifully decorated and reminds me of greek style entrance. The entire park is decorated for Christmas, at night they look so beautiful. Christmas spirit seemed all around, people were taking photos here and there.
These large ornamental decors caught my eyes so quickly, they looked so cute though...
The entire park was covered with snow, some places were slippery and I was avoiding walking on the slippery side. The trees looked dead but believe me, during summer this spot changed a lot. It looks so green and fresh.
This is not the driveway, this is the main walkway of the park, or I can say parade zone. Sometimes it seems like board way, during summer it looks like that way...
Found a nice decorated Christmas Tree when I was leaving, so many people were there, trying to take photos so I just walked away...
On my way home, I have found some unique decorative pieces. During this holiday season, Kharkiv city looks different, everything here looks beautiful and will make you feel the joy and happiness of the celebration. When I was exploring these beautiful decorations, I completely forgot how cold it was. I was so excited to see such unique decorations here and there.
I also have found this cute swing but must mention it was small compared to my size. It was not a good idea to sit on the swing wearing a heavy jacket...
Nevermind...
Let's talk about architecture a little bit. This part of the city which is known as Rymarskaya street hasn't changed anything because of the holiday season. It was, as usual, the same old building but fewer people compared to normal office days.
Post-soviet architecture is always fascinating to see, so many things I don't even know. Mixtures of different architectural styles sometimes confuse me, I often can't recognize what I just saw when it comes to classifying the architectural style.
Walkways and footpaths are kinda broken due to heavy snowfall, I hope the authority will fix it before the summer. Otherwise, it would be disaster.
Of course, Elena was with me, we shared some great moments with each other. Of course, I have taken some photos in front of the carousel, I will share them later...
I must mention that the french carousel was beautiful and at night it looks more beautiful. Maybe soon I will visit Gorgky park again but this time I will choose the evening to see the lights. I hope there will be the Christmas lights till then.
The snow started melting and streets and walkways are in disaster condition. Due to climate change, the pattern of snowfall and winter changed a lot. Sometimes warm sometimes so cold like hell. But yes, this is Kharkiv after all, a city with wonders and variations...
That's all for today, folks...
Until next time... Have a nice day everyone...

Things are different around the world. People are already on the street working day to day here while you are still enjoying the holidays in Ukraine. I should get a Visa, lol!
Yes, because here the idea of the Holiday season is different and as they don't celebrate on 25th December so they celebrate on 7th January and this is the biggest vacation for them in the whole year...

Ya, every year they decorate this park and it looks so beautiful at night. We have so many locations to see during the Holiday season though I haven't got the chance to explore them all these years. They have put some unique decoration pieces for creating nice photo memories as well.
Thank you for your wonderful feedback...
I love when cities embrace the season like they do there ;)

You're welcome my friend, Happy New Year!
I have always heard of Gorky Park (ok mainly from the song Winds of Change by the Scorpions LOL) but I had never seen it, until now! It is quite a large place and looked fun in spite of all the snow!
I haven't written about Gorky park on the hive as I don't visit it often, there is so much to see. This was just a part of the entire park, it's a huge park. I am going to listen the song by Scorpions, :D There must be a reason why they mentioned about it :D :D
I missed this post!
It must be wonderful!
Well it is, I have taken some photos too. Will post soon :D :D
