The Greater Good

Earlier today, I was spending some quality time at the one place where I've found that I'm able to think clearly these days, the bathroom, when I asked myself a question that I feel should be thrown at you guys too.

Is there ever enough reason to do bad?

Now I know this question might be confusing to you guys at first, so let me explain a bit further to help you guys understand. Now while I was in the bathroom, my mind had wondered off to people who do certain bad stuff, but for good reasons, and I found myself wondering if maybe the fact that the bad thing they did was for a good reason, that it no longer makes that bad thing bad anymore.

A good example is someone who has to kill ten people in order to save a thousand. Clearly, picking the ten people over the one thousand will be a good choice, seeing how their death would be saving a much more greater number of people, but does doing that, does saving those thousand people make your bad of killing those ten people no longer a bad thing?

The reason why I ask that question is because often times, I've come to notice that just because your actions ended up stopping a greater evil from happening, people tend to ignore the many bad things you had to do to stop it.

It's like the super hero movies, the avengers for example. Whenever they're battling different kind of forces and creatures from all over the place, those fights always ends up with them destroying homes and cars with people in it, and yet no one tend to care about those damages and death, as long as they end up defeating the greater threat at the end.

It's almost as if we've been wired to overlook these things and I honestly don't think they're right because although what you're doing is for a greater cause, that doesn't mean that all of the actions you took to achieve that goal should be unimportant or ignored during the entire process.

Anyways, what do you guys think about this.. Should we only focus on the final result, or should people be aware of every step they take and try as much as possible to do things in a less harmful way while still trying to achieve the same goal at the end?

Sometimes I think it's ok again sometimes I feel it's not. I don't want to think too much about it. It seems easy but complicated thought.

The way I see it, it really isn't that much complicated.. Especially if we agree that doing anything bad is bad, then we shouldn't compromise no matter the reason.

But if we do decide to compromise, we shouldn't try to ignore the fact that some bad had to be done in order to make things right.
