The Difference is Obvious

(Edited)

This is my entry for today's contest topic. You can read more about it here.

First and foremost, in a country like mine, I believe no one would voluntarily want to use anything government owned, if the private sector wasn't so expensive.

I remember back in the day when I had just finished primary school, my dad had called me and asked if I'd like to attend a government school. His reason for asking at the time was because he was trying to see if he could reduce the school fee expenses because government schools don't pay school fees but they pay for everything else, from your school uniform, down to the books you use.

Of course I had said no at the time for mainly two reasons, the first being that I wanted to continue going to my current school at the time with my friends, and the second reason being because of the bad rep those government schools had at the time (they probably still do).

Back in the day, schools like that were known for fighting, cultism and all sorts of crazy stuff. They were even times where they came to the front of our school to cause trouble with us whenever it was closing time and we had to go home.

Although I ended up not attending any government school, I had friends who did. As a matter of fact, the majority of my friends at the time did, and they would come back home, telling me one story or the other of something crazy that happened in school.

Some of those stories were so crazy that I would quietly thank my stars that I wasn't attending such school. Also, due to the fact that the school was free, overpopulation became a real problem, to the extent where they didn't have enough seats or desks for students.

I remember at the beginning of the term, my friends will have to go to school with their own seats and desks, and they would make sure to give it a special mark or design, so that if it does get stolen, they could go class by class to look for it, and with the help of the unique design given to it, they'd be able to find it.

There were a couple of other stuff that I've forgotten about because it has been years now, but it was always something bad, never anything good. And I honestly don't know if it was like that for all government schools, or just the one that was located at my area, or maybe it was just my friends only talking about the bad stuff to me and they were good stuff that I didn't know of.

One thing I just know for sure is that if it's cheap or free, it's almost guaranteed that it wouldn't be a good experience because people tend to misbehave and misuse free stuff. The same goes for the health sector too, but that probably will be a story for another day because that one really hits close to home for me.
