The Cars of Tomorrow, Today.

The past few days has been a very busy one for me, so busy that I missed the topic on "self-driving cars". A lot of my friends, people who were really there for me at various aspects of my life recently graduated, so I've been jumping from one department to another, dishing out congratulations to all of them.

But you see, the advancement of technology in vehicles is something that I've always been excited about, until I heard of the self-driving feature which kinda made me uncomfortable due to some of the potential risks that I just can't take my mind off.

Now I'm not someone who's huge on cars, I rarely know the names or model of any cars except for the popular once here and that is because cars don't freak me, but if there is one thing about cars that always draws my attention, it is the tech in them. And that is why whenever videos of someone explaining the features of a new car pops up on my phone, I always make sure to watch it because I'm in love with tech.

But you see, when I first heard of the self-driving feature in cars, I remember I had a mixed feeling about it and this was because of one reason only, accidents. You see, I've seen multiple videos of these self-driving vehicles and trust me when I say that they're always cool but I'm too African to comfortably place my life in the hands of some tech that uses sensors, cameras and softwares to operate.

And this is because when it comes to driving a car, it has a lot more to do with just driving that car. There are situations when driving where you have to think fast, use your initiative to avoid certain situations while making quick decisions. These are things that I really don't think those cars can do yet and that is why cars like that are mainly used in countries where they have really good traffic laws and roads, which brings me to my next point.

In some areas in my country, the roads are nothing to write home about, if not the worse out there. Now unless there is some kinda sensor in these cars that detects pot-holes, how do you expect me to sit comfortably in a car that could literally sumersault any minute due to some of these very dangerous holes in the middle of the road.

Now maybe some of these problems that I complained about might have been solved already (I apologise if that's the case), I honestly don't know because I've never owned an autonomous vehicle, but these are just some of the questions that came to mind when I first heard of a car driving itself.

I'm telling you Nkem.. I doubt I will ever feel relaxed in any of these cars, which kinda defeat the purpose of self-driving vehicles because I'm sure the number thing they want to achieve is making us feel relaxed while it does all the work.
