More World vs World
I think I was supposed to take things easy yesterday...
Thing is, it was a sunday and on sundays, my Guild Wars 2 server (Piken Square) always hosts multiple World vs World raids. Pre-coffee raid, coffee raid and yesterday, there was a post-coffee raid aswell.
So I basically played WvW for 5-6 hours straight... Oops!
My head was not happy with me after that. I still have to learn this whole 'All things in moderation' thing. But boy was I happy to just be home with no other plans and able to do whatever I wanted. A nice change from all the social necessities.
Our coffee raid is always filled to the brim with fellow WvW players, so we usually get plenty of nice, big fights. Even before that, we had big fights on the Eternal Battlegrounds, fighting two other servers in Stonemist Castle. The castle is a great place for big fights, because on EB, many people tend to fight over it. Mostly getting those big fights is the most important thing there, instead of owning the castle. Atleast for us it is, because my server loves fighting most of all.
Sometimes capturing the castle is kinda necessary aswell, because once a team holds it for too long and manages to upgrade it to its max, they'll get a waypoint in the castle, meaning they can teleport right in the middle of the map, which makes it a lot easier to launch an attack on enemies.
I stuck around a little too long after the raid I think. Our numbers started dwindling and our commander was a little too focused on uneven fights, being surprised we kept on dying. He's a good commander, around a lot, but can have a bit too much of a focus on this. Most players aren't happy to keep slamming their heads against a wall.
Oh well, I had a lot of fun yesterday, but I'm taking a break today. I was so tired afterwards and a little mad at myself for pushing through it for too long.

This video game is very cool, I got to play it for a while, but I had to abandon it because of the requirements it asks for.
Aww that's a shame! It is a really nice game to play still.
I played GW2 for several years and bought two of the expansion packs back in the day. I later started feeling like MMO's just in a general sense were negatively affecting my personal life so I gave it up. That WvW does look pretty awesome though. There's a bunch of AOE triggers on that 2nd image.
The character that really resonated with me was Necromancer even though it was kind of a one-trick pony with the plague skill. Landing one of those inside of a group that bunched together too much was a pretty great feeling though.
The necromancer is the only class I really play, even though I have a lot of other characters. It's just an easy class to play and it has a lot of AoE damage, which is pretty awesome in big WvW fights 😊
There's another expansion on its way, so I'm sure I'll do some PvEing when that time comes!
I don't remember a lot of the terminology but I recall that my Necro build was a bleed build based around the "Plague" skill. I used scepter and staff although daggers were fun sometimes. It was quite useful in raids or on bosses that spawned helpers. With my team we would get his bleed up so high that any spawns that got near him were nearly insta-killed with all the stacks.
On another note the reason why I kind of fell out with GW2 had a lot to do with the absence of the trifecta or holy trinity. I kind of enjoyed the old method of tank/dps/healer that exists in virtually all other MMO's.
That's a good point, it is very different in GW2. It hasn't bothered me much, but that's because I don't really do group play, other than WvW and in that game mode, people just look for meta builds... which I ignore, because I know how to play my necro reaper and I enjoy it.
just hearing "meta build" made me throw up a little bit (j/k).... It seemed like almost every "meta" was 100% damage and zero ability to take a hit. I hate playing like that because I don't want to dedicate so much time to NEVER GETTING HIT.
The community was pretty decent on there but I do recall finding the odd really toxic person in Dungeon runs that would get IRATE with people and rage quit the group that didn't know how to do some sort of very specific speed run or know how to stack exactly the optimum way and what not. For me, going into a dungeon and totally clearing it, even if that meant everyone getting wiped multiple times was a lot more fun than someone who spent a bunch of time researching the optimum way of getting through in order to get the tokens. Tokens for what? A skin? it's not like the items that you get from those special stores are actually better than crafted ones.
I also feel as though making getting to top level so quickly was nice at first, but a real deterrent for people to actually use the lower level maps. I dunno. I shouldn't bash it too much because I did have a lot of fun on it for many years but I don't see myself ever going back to it. It was pretty novel of them to not ever have a monthly subscription though.
How are the maps these days? Last time I played I recall almost all the maps being damn near empty except for people who were chasing the giant events that happen with the super bosses or whatever they were called. In those instances there would be so many people on the map that victory was basically guaranteed without any real strategy. It was just overwhelming numbers
Bah, meta builds.
I am not actually sure how the maps are these days! My GW2 focus is very one-sided. I just play World vs World. With a new expansion around the corner, I'm sure these new maps will fill up nicely though. Even I will check them out!
Maps, to me, have become a little harder to navigate since mounts were released. Much more height differences and that can be quite frustrating when you're trying to find your way around. That's very personal though.
When mounts were released was the last time I actually played the game. I remember getting the Griffin was a real pain in the ass and kudos to the person who first figured that maze of things to do out.
I also recall that once the mounts were acquired, the maps that you got them in for the most part, were very empty. I think that most people play like you do now as well. WvW is all the rage but the single player teamwork stuff seems to only contain people that are chasing the major events on maps. I guess that is fun but it also gets really repetitive after a while.
