The end of Pinmapple π₯Ή
Hello dear travelers on Hive, @martibis here. Today I am here to share some sad news. We've decided to shut @pinmapple down. It's been a long and super rewarding journey both for the team and the travel community on Hive, but at this point as a team we feel we're burned out on the project and want to focus on other aspects of our lives. After curating travel content each day for 7 years, this is of course not entirely unexpected. The fact we have been at it this long speaks to how much we do love (and still love) the project and the entire Hive travel community that has come into existence around it. As a team, we're super grateful to all of you who have ever pinned a pin on @pinmapple. The project could never have been what it is without all of you. β€οΈ
What we as a community have achieved
- Total Pins: 114,030 (it's pretty crazy there are more than hundred-thousand pins on the map)
- Featured Posts: 32,971 (these have been highlighted by the curation team!)
- Total Users: 5,459 (this is all of you)
You can zoom anywhere in the world and find a post by one of you. Pretty incredible.
Details of closing down
We'll pull the plug early June, and stop curating end of May. This means there will be no more #traveldigest from the end of May and the domain https://pinmapple.com will no longer show any pins. The Discord will be deleted and the community on Hive will no longer be moderated. That said, we would love for someone to carry on the torch under a different brand name. So I'll take some time to update the open source code base + make a back up of our database as well (for the devs here, it might be worth working together with a HAF provider). With regards to our DHF proposal. It would be appreciated if current voters could leave their vote up until mid June, after which I will close down the proposal myself.

Tech side of things should be easy to keep running and I think I can help with that. Also I think it shouldn't be that hard to renovate it to be a HAF based app on the backend. I'm looking forward for code & docs.
What's the hard part is the users and curators engagement.
it's still in our incubation, I'm sure there's some other community curators who'd be up for helping out if the original ones are burnt out, etc. It'd be important to keep this project alive imo.

Sad news, but looks like a very practical and healthy decision by the team. The fact that it is on the blockchain and code is open source means that all of your hard work for so many years does not have to go to waste if another team is ready to continue working on it as you suggested. Thank you to the entire Pinmapple team. This is by far my favorite project on Hive. You guys have brought so much value to the platform and it is sad to see it being shut down.
We're overwhelmed by the support from everyone here, and goes to show our effort didn't wasn't for nothing
Feeling sad as a general user, I loved #Pinmapple from where the unseen world could be explored. It is time to transfer the project to other users, especially some devs, as I have no knowledge regarding coding and background processing, otherwise, I would be very happy to run the project. If anyone is ready to opt in I am with them as a volunteer to keep the great show on in the Hive Blockchain.
I really want to thank @livinguktaiwan , @choogirl , @lizanomadsoul and @ybanezkim26 for their hard work throughout these years. I know how strong devotion is needed to be so punctual and so regular in preparing the #travel digest every day!

It comes with a shock and sadness as Pinmapple was one of my favourite projects since the Steemit era.
Thank you so much for letting us use your platform and able to "place a pin on the map" with our adventures. It made me really think about how to write and introduce the place I visited / review with a deeper thought (since it is on blockchain anyways)
Really hope that there will be another team to take on the torch that lights the way for anyone who wants to travel and got some honest reviews from locals and patrons, so that all your heart-work and dedication on this wonderful project is not in vain.

I haven't been here long, but Pinmmaple was one of the first communities that drew me here.
I wanted to pin all my trips on a map, so that it would serve as a reminder, if and when I get dementia π

Good luck wherever you go, I believe you will be successful, because whoever led this kind of community in another job has to be brilliant.
What a really sad new... I'm very sorry I understand the reasons and I just feel thankful for this wonderful community since the first moment I joined it. It will be a very sad closure to loose all those more than hundred-thousand pins, #traveldigest probably is the biggest community on hive ? Can't you transfer the same domain if other people come forward to continue this ? I can help as a part timer if any other team is taking it forward.

That is a big shame, there have been quite a few projects in the last few months that have wound up or are shutting down on Hive.
