Our Adventure in Making a Coffee Table from a Tree Stump
Hello everyone
Today I am here with a different post than usual. I will tell you the construction stages of my coffee table, which I use very much at home.
Actually, it's been a while since I made this coffee table. In some parts of the line, cracks have formed. Now let me tell you about the construction phase of this coffee table.
First of all, I want to talk about where the idea of making such a coffee table came to my mind. When I went to the house of a dear friend of mine, I saw a log mink coffee table and I liked it very much. I can even say that I fell in love when I saw the coffee table.
My friend said he made the coffee table with a piece of wood he found.
I first looked at the log stands on the internet. Some looked very simple and were reasonably priced. But I didn't like these coffee tables much. The beautiful ones were really expensive. Prices ranged from 150 to 200 dollars. It was impossible for me to pay that much for a coffee table. Like my friend, I decided to make it myself. The only problem was I didn't have a log. Finding a log was much easier than I thought.
One weekend we went to my husband's village. During the conversation, I told my husband's aunt that I wanted to make a log coffee table. Actually, I had no idea of finding a log in the village. My husband's aunt said she could find the log herself. I was lucky that week they had pruned a rather thick branch of a tree in the village. As he said, he found the log immediately.
The log was quite thick. We asked an acquaintance who works in furniture how to make the coffee table. He said we should wait until the log is grain yet.
We kept the log for about 4 weeks. But now that I saw the cracks on it, I realized that this time was also insufficient.
After four weeks, my wife took the log to a carpenter and cut it into thinner pieces. It was also very difficult to do. A few carpenters said they couldn't do it. Eventually one of them agreed and cut the log into slices as thick as a coffee table.
I was ecstatic when my husband brought home the sliced logs. When a carpenter refused to accept me, I had given up hope.
After we cut the logs all we had to do was varnish them nicely. We took all the logs out to the balcony. Of course, first we put a big nylon on the blacon. We put logs on it and varnished each of the log pieces. After the lacquered side dried, we turned it over and repeated the same process on the other side.
We did the varnishing process twice on both sides. This process took 2 days due to drying times. Fortunately, after two days, we finished the varnish without any problems.
We used yacht varnish with the advice of a furniture master. I am now satisfied with the varnish of asehpan. I didn't have any problems.
The table top was ready. Again, my husband's aunt helped in the foot part. Our aunt's son-in-law had a factory and his feet were specially made for us in this factory.
Of course, we gave a few coffee tables to my aunt for their help.
My husband fixed the logs to these feet with screws.
All of a sudden, the house was filled with a lot of coffee tables. Only three of them were ours. We gifted the others to my husband's aunt and cousins.
I placed two of the coffee tables in the living room of my house. The two sides of the bookcase in the living room have become very stylish with coffee tables.
I really like the decoration of my living room. I think they have become much more beautiful with these coffee tables.
Also, I think it is a great chance that my wife is skilled in such matters. It was much nicer to decorate our house with the items we made ourselves.
Now, I made the coffee tables much more beautiful with the accessories I prepared.
I don't like using lace at home. However, there was a model that I liked very much and I thought it would suit my coffee tables very well. I took a little effort and got a sample of this lace that I saw in a photo on the internet. After I finished, I laid it out on my coffee tables.
In addition, I prepared pumpkin pots, which I told you with the post how I did it before. I also use these flower pots as accessories on my coffee tables.
Now there are a few small cracks on the wooden parts of the coffee tables. But they don't bother me at all. In fact, my coffee tables look much more natural this way.
As I mentioned before, it is much more enjoyable to use products prepared by one's own hands. I really liked my coffee tables. I find my living room as it is so cute and cozy.
How do you think my coffee tables are not so beautiful?
