Paradisiacal beaches of the Nicoya peninsula. Costa Rica (ENG/SPA)
Costa Rica has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, with crystal clear waters, white sands and abundant nature that make them paradisiacal places.
Some of the most popular are found south of the Niicoya peninsula in the Pacific of Costa Rica. They are mostly visited by people looking for adventure and perfect waves for surfing. However, there are also beaches where calm waters and fewer visitors make them perfect places to clear your mind and renew energy.
Organos Beach
It is one of the first beaches to be found after crossing the Gulf of Nicoya by ferry, although it is a little known place. It is a quiet place with beautiful light gray sands, with a wide extension, ideal for a good walk. The waves of its waters are moderate and it has abundant trees and palm trees that provide their shade in the warmest moments of the day.
At one end of the beach there is a beautiful river mouth, which forms shallow lagoons of warm water.
Curú Beach
This beach is within the national wildlife refuge of the same name. It is a huge spot in a bay, so its waters are calm, perfect for taking a bath.
It is the perfect place to observe wildlife, monkeys, deer, raccoons, birds and many more, they are easily found along the beach or on the different trails within the refuge.
Pochote Beach
Of my favorite beaches, this is a very quiet place ideal for camping and traveling with the family, especially if there are small children. It is located inside a large bay called Ballena, this makes the waves very soft and when the tide rises, beautiful lagoons with clear waters are formed, where you can swim and observe marine life.
In addition, along the beach you can find several rivers and estuaries surrounded by spectacular natural environments.
Tambor Beach
It is one of the most popular beaches in the area. Important hotel development is located here, including the Barceló Playa Tambor, which attracts a large number of national and European visitors. Its beach is wide with clear sands and waves of moderate size.
Its name is due to the sound that the waves make when they burst and that can be heard from long distances. The nightlife is very entertaining and you can find a wide variety of options for restaurants, bars and nightclubs or simply enjoy a bonfire by the sea with friends.
Montezuna Beach
We move to the beaches where the greatest attraction is surfing. Its location towards the open sea and its rocky beaches makes it ideal for the formation of large waves.
Montezuma has white sands and turquoise waters. The town has a bohemian atmosphere and a party atmosphere prevails at night. Here lives a large community of Argentines, who have combined their culture with the Costa Rican to create a unique place in the country.
Playa el Carmen (Santa Teresa)
This is another ideal beach for surfing. With the growth of Montezuna, tourism moved to other less crowded beaches. This is how Playa del Carmen became famous as a tourist destination and which is part of the Malpaís beach complex.
It is extensive, with white sands where you can practice a large number of activities such as hiking, horseback riding on the beach, kayaking, canopy among others.
Cabuya Beach
Many foreigners who seek to reside in Costa Rica in a quiet place away from mass tourism, have found this beach the perfect place to live. Cabuya is a natural, geological and historical paradise. It borders the Cabo Blanco absolute natural reserve, which has the last natural environments of its kind in all of Central America.
Its rocky beaches are exposed at low tide showing large stone esplanades. It is at that time where you can walk to the famous cemetery island, a mysterious place where for many years the inhabitants have used to bury their dead. When the tide rises it is impossible to leave the island, since the waves and sharp rocks complicate the arrival of the boats.
