The Forever Blanket is Finally Complete!

IT'S A PAGAN MIRACLE Y'ALL

The Forever Blanket, 30 years or so in the making, is finally complete. And if you think that's hyperbole, it isn't: I started this project in high school, and I am currently 45 years old.

When I say I've been working on it foreverrrrr, I mean foreverrrrr.

When I do a long term project, I mean a long term project.

Never give up, never surrender! You can finish your WIPs!!

The big blue and black part at the top is vintage 1990s knitting, lol.

This one goes out to all my neurodivergent friends who also start 20,000,001 projects and struggle to actually finish them.

And yes, Yuan and I have slept with it the past couple of nights. I love it. 😃

You can see on one side, the stitching attaching all the pieces together is very visible, and on the other side it's much more subtle. I like it that way, too. 😄 The blue and black was the yarn I originally bought for the project, thinking it would be enough, and all the other colors is me using up my yarn stash. I started off knitting that first piece on circular needles, but I popped three of them due to the weight, just from that one piece. That's when I decided to make multiple pieces. It is double stranded, worsted weight, acrylic yarn (mostly Red Heart but not all), knit on size 7 needles.

Celebrate with me! My longest term project is complete!!! 🎉

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful week, everyone!

Yes! It was one of those things I would work on for a while and then put down and not touch again for months (or years). The past few months I was like, I'm almost done, let's try and finish it - and I did!

Wow! fascinating and it's really beautiful too. I don't think I would be able to keep it intact for such a long time. From the pictures it feels like you just had it done all together 😃. I'd tag you on my handbag when I'm done 🙂

O wow, @phoenixwren - this is an incredible achievement!!!!

I so get you with taking an age to make things - but this beats even my record of around 20 years to 'finish' a painting! I LOVE that you kept going all this time, and eventually completed this beauuuuuutiful blanket: I bet it feels incomparably comfortable and worth the efforts... Well done!

Yes, you understand with the 20 year painting! :D It actually does feel just so good to sleep with it. I love the weight and how tightly knit it is and all the colors. ^_^
Thank you so much! :)

As a fellow neurodivergent, it gives me great mental relief to see you finish off a 30 year project. The blanket looks great too! 🙂 Now back to my decluttering project..

That’s great.

I have been trying to engage in tapestry and I’ve been giving up and it’s awesome how your post has inspired me.
I think I’m going to try something today.
Thank you Phoenixwren!

You mentioned something about thirty years. Do you mean you have been working on this blanket for about thirty years?
Wow!!!

Yes. It's one of those projects I started and stopped on with huge gaps in between.

It's because it's one of those projects I would work on for a while and then put down and start doing something else, lol.
