My Very Belated Goals for 2022

avatar

OKAY. So. It's nearly March, but here I am getting back on the horse. If you are unfamiliar, last year I was participating in @eddie-earner's and @susie-saver 's Saturday Savers Club, but then at the end I had to pull my HBD savings for rent, and I was disheartened. I also lost Maggie right at the end of 2021, and though at first my reaction was "do all the things and distract myself" that didn't last, and eventually I fell into a slump (and a serious brain fog as well). So I've been just kind of ~blah~ for the past couple of months, not doing much of anything.

But I am getting back up, and so here is my (late!) goals post for 2022.

Since my financial situation is precarious, it's a little hard to put dollar amounts onto my goals (as well, the price of Hive fluctuating as it does). So I've decided, rather than make a daily/weekly type goal, I'm going to make a year-long goal, and report my progress on it monthly.

My Goals:

I still want that keyboard, dangit, which is currently priced at $255 ($230 for basic keyboard + $25 for sustainer pedal). So, keyboard is a goal.

BUT as seen I have basic needs that I often need to pull for like rent and cat food.

So, my goal is to pull whatever I need throughout the year as I need it for rent and such, but at the end to ALSO have that $275 (I figure with tax it's probably closer to that) to be able to get my keyboard.

Goal #1: Enough left in HBD savings by the end of the year to buy my keyboard

I also have still been picking up a couple of EDS tokens here and there after I met my initial goal of 100 of them. I really like the passive income from them giving me Hive. So, my next goal is 200 EDS tokens by the end of the year as well (I'm currently at 133).

Goal #2: 200 EDS tokens

And finally, if you've seen any of my Study With Me videos, you know I've been studying French on my own. So, this isn't finance related, but my third goal is to finish the workbook I've been using to learn French from (French Now! Level 1). There are 515 pages of work (minus the charts and glossary at the back), and after an hour of studying tonight I am currently on page 80.

Goal #3: Complete French workbook

SWM3 cover.jpg
Sadly, I just found out tonight that there is no level 2 for this textbook published! Argh. I have other French study materials which I will probably switch to after this and I'm sure there will be some overlap, but what can you do. I was hoping to continue with the same system so that I didn't have to repeat some material, but I'll also probably have a firmer grasp of it if I learn some things more than once in different styles.

So, the 2022 Kickasserole Plan:

~ 275 HBD

~ 200 EDS

~ Finish French textbook!

Wish me luck (bonus points if you wish me luck in French)! ;)

Thanks for reading! :)

Hi! Good luck on your goals!

May I ask, what's EDS is?

Thank you! EDS are Eddie Earners tokens. They payout Hive weekly to your Hive wallet when you hold some in your Hive-Engine wallet (more EDS, more Hive paid out). You can either buy them or win some by commenting on the Saturday Savers Club posts, which I linked above. :)

Yay! Great goals and a good way of managing savings for "now" and "later". 😍

No French but I do wish you the best with your goals, especially learning another language. As a child I really wanted to be multi lingual, but didn't put in the effort 🙈. I know it's not too late though.

Oh yeah, have you thought of learning French with an app?

I did start using a software program on my old computer, but then that computer died and I haven't started up again on the current one. I think I'm going to work through the book first and then pick up the software and/or some listening tapes that I have, so that I can learn it different ways. :)

Oh when I was younger, we also had a program on our pc that thought different languages, but also because of servicing the computer and outdated software, we "lost" it. We also didn't make an effort after that though.

... so that I can learn it different ways. :)

That's the best way to learn something new. My mom also told me that by listening to foreign music or by watching foreign movies, one could also learn another language. That's how I picked up English before I was taught in school.

When I studied Spanish in high school the whole class started watching this telenovela that I don't remember the name of, but it was a good way to learn because even if you didn't know all the words they were so dramatic you still could get the gist of it with your limited vocabulary. But my favorite was actually this game show that came on El Sabado Gigante but I can't remember the name - something to do with geese - and it was just one of those wacky obstacle course and pranks kind of game shows, back when we didn't really have those on TV in English. I kept trying to tell my classmates to watch that one too and not just the telenovela, but I don't think anyone else did. 😂

A game (show) sounds interesting... I'll still need subtitles though 😅.

Heck, even for English class (when we did Shakespeare) we had to watch the movie version of the play, only to understand that "old" English 😂.

Even first language English speakers struggle with Shakespeare. One of the reasons why I liked the 90s movie Romeo + Juliet with Leonardo diCaprio in it was because it made more sense seeing it in a modern context (as they made the setting modern but the language the same). But even worse is The Canterbury Tales (from the 12th century, I think) or Beowulf (from the 9th or 10th century, I think?). We studied both of those books in English lit class and they came with translations on the opposite page. Technically English, but old enough that it was basically a foreign language at this point. 😂

Those were my thoughts also 😂. The same with 19th century literature like Jane Austen for example. I had a dictionary with me when reading those books, especially when the authors described clothing items. I was like "I don't know any of those terms" 😅.

Oh yes, I enjoyed the Romeo and Juliet version from the 90's and I don't remember reading Beowolf though, but it was definitely mentioned in class. Have you seen the one with Angelina Joli in it? It was when I watched that movie that I comprehended the story.

No, there's a Beowulf movie with Angelina Joli? I'll have to look.

I do like also the movie A Knight's Tale with Heath Ledger which is one of the stories from The Canterbury Tales.

I forgot the movie was computerized, but found out when I looked it up again. Here's the IMDB link:

Oh, I've seen this one but didn't realize it was part of those tales. Now I should look those up 😅.
