Hello friends of The Anime Realm! just at the end of May I took up again the habit of reading manga, and I fall perfectly with the #MangaMonday8 that make in the community because last month came out the anime of Kaiju No. 8 and has only a few episodes but I loved it, so instead of waiting a week each episode of the anime I decided to do a marathon of manga of Kaiju No. 8 and catch up with their chapters and I tell you that I really loved it and I'm too hooked! But for those who don't know it, I'll give you a little review of the manga because there are several differences with the anime!

Kaiju N° 8 is a manga in which the world has been attacked several times by Kaijus, which are giant monsters whose general objective is to destroy humanity or at least cause as much destruction as possible, so humanity has gradually been preparing to face them by creating the Defense Units, which are soldiers prepared and equipped to defeat these monsters with different means and resources.

Which brings us to our protagonist Hibino Kafka, a generic adult, who in the past suffered a horrible accident in his hometown along with his friend Mina at the hands of the kaiju and promised to destroy them all together, the problem is that Kafka gave up in the tests to enter the defense units and Mina became the most important captain of the defense units, which frustrated him and he settled for a job as a disaster cleaner, which is basically being a kaiju garbage collector.

But shortly after the play begins we are introduced to a new garbage collector named Leno Ichikawa who with sheer determination tells him to join the defense units, which rekindles that desire in Kafka, but an accident with a kaiju occurs and after being narrowly saved and defended by Mina's unit while resting in the hospital, a tiny kaiju inserts itself into Kafka turning him into a full blown kaiju.

After that we see the development of Kafka trying to understand how this situation can be taken advantage of and trying to enter the defense forces without them finding out that he is a kaiju, trying by any means to fulfill the promise he made to Mina to be by her side, here is when we begin to see a little difference between the manga and the anime, as there are scenes that are tiny but tell us about their personalities, in the manga we see how Mina constantly thinks of Kafka and feels sad because he had not fulfilled his promise.

But as Kafka joins the defense units, she starts to become more cheerful as she sees his determination and is happy when Kafka shouts in front of everyone that he will be by her side, something that is briefly taught in the anime.

As the work progresses we see how Kafka, now called Kaiju N° 8 deals with his life as a human and as a kaiju, defending the world from monsters while trying to coexist with his human ways, something that really struck me about the work is that despite being a world constantly threatened by monsters and that is supposed to have a dark tone like other monster related anime, this manga/anime is encouraged to be very comical and hilarious in several moments.

Obviously this is my manga recommendation for this occasion, I didn't want to make many spoilers and much less reveal important details of the plot, but honestly it's a manga that at least for now I thought it was great, it has a lot of action, a plot that as it progresses is cooking and we really see how it influences the world and also I'll be honest, I look forward to the romance between Mina and Kafka hahahahahahaha.

Without anything else to say other than read this manga and give it a chance, thank you so much for reading! Happy beginning of June to all of you!

I want to start watching the anime at what I think is 8 or so episodes released and even though I'm waiting for the first season to end to watch them all, I'll possibly start reading the manga.

I'm fascinated by the design of Kaiju N°8 and I think it's great how it looks in its original format, your post convinced me to read the manga first and then get into the anime; I always do the opposite.

Currently watching the anime and I totally love what I'm seeing.
Haven't read the manga though and I heard they stopped it in one part without any official memo.

I do hope they continue it before the anime reaches that chapter.

The manga is still broadcast, I just read the last episode, I hadn't heard that but I think it was fake news or something, the truth is at a critical point so I doubt they will stop without warning or some explanation.
