Hoy se celebra en #Venezuela el Día de la Virgen del Valle, advocación mariana que es patrona del Estado Nueva Esparta y otros Estados orientales, así como también lo es de los pescadores y de la #Armada Bolivariana de Venezuela.

Today is celebrated in #Venezuela the Day of the Virgin of the Valley, a Marian dedication that is the patron saint of the Nueva Esparta State and other Eastern States, as well as the fishermen and the Bolivarian #Navy of Venezuela.

Hoy se celebró en Venezuela el Día de la Virgen del Valle, también llamada Nuestra Señora del Valle del Espíritu Santo, esta advocación mariana fue consagrada en 1910, pero fue el 8 de septiembre de 1911 que se realizó su coronación en un acto litúrgico, por este motivo es que se celebra su día en esta fecha. A pesar de que estoy haciendo referencia al Siglo XX, su veneración y presencia en la historia de la región data del Siglo XVI, pues su imagen llego a la isla de Cubagua en 1526, pasando luego a la isla de Margarita, en donde se encuentra hasta la actualidad. Me llama la atención que ella tiene diversos nombres para referirse a ella, tales como

  • Señora de la Tempestad, por haber resistido en 1541 el huracán que destruyó todo a su paso por Cubagua.
  • Virgen de los Güaiqueríes, porque estuvo al resguardo de esta comunidad indígena durante un tiempo en la década de 1540
  • Nuestra Señora de Nueva Cádiz, dado durante el tiempo de la colonia
  • Virgen Milagrosa, por los múltiples milagros que se le atribuyen a su intercepción
  • Madre de los pescadores, cuestión de la ocupación principal de sus devotos en la isla
  • Patrona de los marineros, por motivos obvios del título anterior
  • Protectora de los Neoespartanos, que es estado en donde está
  • Virgen Bonita, supongo que será por cariño
  • Niña del Valle, definitivamente este apodo es por cariño de su gente
  • Reina de Oriente, por su ubicación geográfica y su atributo como Madre de Dios, según la tradición católica cristiana
Estoy seguro de que me faltan muchos nombre y títulos más, pero mejor lo dejo hasta este punto. En lo personal, me llama la atención la fecha y su celebración, porque buena parte de mi familia tiene raíces en el oriente venezolano y esta religiosidad particular me da un sentido de familiaridad. Así que te puedo desear que hubieras tenido un Feliz Día de la Virgen del Valle.

I'm sure I'm missing many more names and titles, but I better leave it at this point. Personally, the date and its celebration catch my attention, because a good part of my family has roots in eastern Venezuela and this particular religiosity gives me a sense of familiarity.
