This Monday has been a quiet day for me, in general. We are ending day 906 since it was announced in #Venezuela that we were entering #Quarantine in response to the #Covid-19 #pandemic. Reviewing the ephemeris of #History to see if I chose any of that for today's record, I found this particular date, that of the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta in 1997, on a day like today.
After his death, it had been commented that without a doubt a process would begin to exalt his memory to the altars by the Roman Catholic #church, which happened somewhat unexpectedly, it happens that for the beatification process to begin, the law establishes that 5 years must have passed since the death of the person, but the #Pope of the moment, John Paul II, initiated the procedure as only 2 years had passed since his death, that was irregular, but the opinion was held in favor of the action, so the most conservative voices of the Congregation of Rites could not say anything against it being heard, in addition to the fact that it was said that alleged miracles associated with the intersection of Mother Teresa had already been recorded, in end, which was the fastest process of beatification, and subsequent sanctification, in our recent history.
It is a curious thing that #MotherTeresaOfCalcutta, now Saint Teresa of Calcutta, is the only one of the figures exalted to the altars to have a #Nobel Prize in her registry, without a doubt it is something interesting. International recognition of her was awarded as the Nobel Peace Prize, for her dedication to the poor and caring for the disenfranchised. There is a curious detail that catches my attention, it is the apparent difference of opinion that Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II had in their last years, it is that for the Pope contemplative #charity was no longer a realistic solution, a proactive charity was needed, one that would not only keep the poor alive, but help them and push them out of poverty. Mother Teresa's vision was fully welfare, but she never worried about the causes of poverty of the populations she served, nor was she interested in trying to get them to overcome the state of poverty so that they did not require charity and could get up on their own.
I do not have clear information about what happened in that situation, but the estrangement they had was something public and known; however, they kept mutual appreciation in what is known.
Well, I'll leave the record until here, I must take advantage of the fact that although electricity is experiencing voltage instability, at least I still have electricity service, that puts me in a better situation than 25% of the population of my country that at the moment It has no electricity supply, as I have seen in the reports on social networks. Este lunes ha sido un día tranquilo para mí, en líneas generales. Estamos terminando el día 906 desde que se anunció en #Venezuela que entrabamos en #Cuarentena como respuesta a la#pandemia de #Covid19. Al revisar las efemérides de la #Historia para ver si escogía algo de eso para el registro de hoy, me encontré con esta fecha particular, la del fallecimiento de la Madre Teresa de Calcuta en 1997, en un día como hoy.
Luego de su muerte, se había comentado que sin dudas se iniciaría un proceso de enaltecer su memoria a los altares por parte de la #iglesia católica romana, cosa que sucedió de manera un tanto imprevista, sucede que para que el proceso de beatificación comience, la ley establece que tienen que haber pasado 5 años del fallecimiento de la persona, pero el #Papa del momento, Juan Pablo II, inició el procedimiento al haber pasado solamente 2 años de su muerte, eso fue irregular, pero se tenía a la opinión pública a favor de la acción, así que las voces más conservadoras de la Congregación de Ritos no pudo decir nada en contra que fuera escuchado, además de que se decía que ya se había registrado presuntos milagros asociados a la intersección de la Madre Teresa, en fin, que fue el proceso de beatificación, y posterior santificación, más rápida de nuestra historia reciente.
Es una cosa curiosa que la #MadreTeresaDeCalcuta, ahora Santa Teresa de Calcuta, es la única de las figuras enaltecidas a los altares en tener un Premio #Nobel en su registro, sin dudas que es algo interesante. El reconocimiento internacional le fue otorgado como Premio Nobel a la Paz, por su dedicación a los pobres y al cuidado de los desasistidos. Hay un detalle curioso que me llama un poco la atención, es la aparente diferencia de opinión que tuvieron en sus últimos años la Madre Teresa y el Papa Juan Pablo II, se trata de que para el Papa la #caridad contemplativa ya no era una solución realista, se necesitaba una caridad proactiva, que no solamente mantuviera con vida a los pobres, sino que les ayudara y les impulsara a superar la pobreza. La visión de la Madre Teresa era plenamente asistencial, pero nunca se preocupó de las causas de la pobreza de las poblaciones que atendía, ni se interesó en procurar que lograran superar el estado de pobreza par que no requirieran caridad y pudieran levantarse por sí mismos.
No tengo información clara de que sucedió en esa situación, pero el alejamiento que tuvieron fue algo público y conocido; sin embargo, se guardaron mutuo aprecio en lo que se sabe.
Bueno, ya dejaré el registro hasta acá, debo aprovechar que si bien la electricidad está teniendo inestabilidad de tensión, por lo menos aún tengo servicio eléctrico, eso me pone en mejor situación que el 25% de la población de mi país que en estos momentos no tiene suministro eléctrico, según he visto en los reportes en redes sociales.
