Today I thought to make the record of the day remembering the death of William Wallace, betrayed by his people, delivered to his enemies and remembered today as a fighter for the #Freedom of his people, all that reminded me of a character in the fight for the Independence of #Venezuela, I mean Francisco de Miranda. But, when reviewing the ephemeris of the day, I found that many different things had happened in #History for this date, however, there was a commemoration that caught my attention and refocused my interest on the struggles for freedom.<
Today is the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, declared by the #UN in 2004. It is a relatively recent date, but it was inspired by an event that marked the beginning of the decline of the slave trade of slaves, at least in the American colonies, on the night of August 22-23, 1791, a slave uprising took place in Saint Domingue, the western portion of the Caribbean island named by the Spanish conquerors as "La Española", at dawn of the 23rd had managed to ensure success and began a process of equipping themselves to defend their newly won freedom, one of the things they also did was to retake the native name of the island, its Amerindian name was #Haiti.

Hoy pensaba hacer el registro del día recordando la muerte de William Wallace, traicionado por su gente, entregado a sus enemigos y recordado hoy en día como un luchador por la #Libertad de su pueblo, todo eso me hacía recordar a un personaje de la lucha por la Independencia de #Venezuela, me refiero a Francisco de Miranda. Pero, al revisar las efemérides del día, me encontré que habían pasado muchas cosas diversas en la #Historia para esta fecha, sin embargo, había una conmemoración que me llamó la atención y volvió a centrar mi interés en las luchas por la libertad.
Hoy es el Día Internacional del Recuerdo de la Trata de Esclavos y de su Abolición, declarado por la #ONU en el 2004. Se trata de una fecha relativamente reciente, pero se inspiró en un evento que marcó un inicio para el declive de la trata de esclavos, al menos en las colonias americanas, la noche del 22 al 23 de agosto de 1791, se produjo una sublevación de esclavos en Saint Domingue, la porción occidental de la isla caribeña nombrada por los conquistadores españoles como "La Española", al amanecer del día 23 había logrado asegurar el éxito y comenzaron un proceso de pertrecharse para defender su libertad recién conquistada, una de las cosas que hicieron también fue retomar el nombre nativo de la isla, su nombre amerindio era Haití.
La república de Haití fue la primera en la región del Caribe o de Sudamérica librarse del yugo extranjero y reclamar la independencia, eso es un hito muy importante, además, de que le recuerdo con particular respeto por el apoyo que brindaron al inicio de la lucha de la independencia de Venezuela. Ciertamente, que desde el inicio hasta el tiempo presente, son una nación pobre de recursos y de finanzas, de hecho, hasta no hace mucho eran la nación más pobre del continente, y es justo por eso que me causa más admiración, que en medio de todas sus necesidades, apoyaron con lo que pudieron a la causa de una nación hermana para el logro de la libertad de todos los pueblos.
